These are classic country music lyrics about love and alcoholism. This song has everything going for it--a bottle of Jack Daniels and a saloon angel. I can hear the weepy guitars and the drawled country singer. These lyrics show you know the genre well. If you can, get a singer or a musician to pen the music sheet to it so your lyrics could be played and sung. Thank you for sharing.

Well wouldn't it be great if you could sing the lyrics and put the whole thing on Fanstory Brett? It's hard to distance oneself enough and read it as a piece of poetry because it really NEEDS the music to be fully appreciated. The 'alcoholism' aspect is uncomfortable though - one wonders if his wife is a complete fool!

These lyrics are absolutely fabulous. I think it would make a big hit! I almost started to cry when in the song you say " They say there's no such thing as angels, well, my woman's wearing wings." Thank you for sharing this fabulous song!

Well, that certainly does sound like a country song. I can just imagine it being sung by Hank Williams or one of the other old timers. (Don't know if you like that idea, tho). I don't know much about the newer country music singers. Anyway, this is really a sad one. And, so authentically country-western. Well rhymed and good rhythm.

I really enjoyed the lyrics in this poem, very well written. I am a big fan of country music so certainly can relate to what you are saying. Too bad alcohol gets the best of some people, but I guess that is the way it is. Maybe someday your poem will become a country song - hope so. Carol

I wish I could give you a six for this, but I have none left.
Your poem is so very lyrical, I can hear it being sung .... somewhere. The words are sad, beautifully written with a lot of emotion and feeling. Excellent writing.
Warm regards,
Wendy.

This lament of an alcoholic shows how devastating a curse this disease is. He knows he is destroying his marriage, but he does not have the strength to stop. This all comes through in your poem. Thank you for sharing.

They say there's no such thing as angels, well, my woman's wearing wings.
She's the rock that I still lean on. The gold inside our wedding rings.
Wow...I don't see any reason for all the explaining in your notes. This poem tells a story within well written lines. Very powerful is its message.
I think it goes on behind many a closed door...

This is a great country themed song. It's too bad Ole Possum is gone, but I imagine there are plenty of others who can do it justice. I hope someone records this. Best of luck to you. Great job.

This is absolutely beautiful. Such a sad, yet happy story. This woman sounds like she's a real woman, yet it's hard on someone, no matter how strong they are, to watch the one they love do this to themselves. Great writing!!
