Wind chimes play such charming and original music. Meditation time is calling me to sit and relax under the bell tree. I like the words you used to create the haiku, Andre. The blackness of the image and bells are forming vintage looking, fading composition. Thing from the past. It is a very well done haiku. Blessings, Ella

Such a pleasurable read with great imagery and sound.

I can even hear the chimes as if I were walking by your side on our way to church.

Good luck in the Tanka contest.... It's a great poem.

There is something meditative about chimes. Perhaps it is because of the wind which reminds us of the Spirit Whose movement is surprising like the wind. (and the in Greek pneuma is both spirit and wind). I like that though the bell tower is empty, the night is silent and the pigeons are at peace, it is the sound of the chimes that call to prayer.

Yes, lyenochka, there is something meditative about chimes. This morning I stopped by the chimes that inspired my Tanka a month ago. I listened and thanked them for inspiring my first Tanka poem. Thank you for your review.

Very creative thinking to make quite an appealing read for us and to let us know what you encountered by walking in a neighborhood, on a winter's day and just wondering if the church was abandoned? Anyways, I liked what you wrote quite a lot as you can see....And a spectacular photo of either magnified photo shot of wind chimes or maybe this is as big as actually they appear to be in this photo? These magnificent-looking wind chimes if close to the church... can somehow make up a little for the deleted church bells...At least the pigeons have a peaceful shelter.

Best wishes for your entry...Caressa-08

Thank you, Caressa, for your generous, six star review and for wishing me success in the contest. i stopped by the wind chimes today to listen and thank them for inspiring me. The chimes I saw were small. I love the abstractness of the picture I chose.

Wind chimes definitely have a unique alluring quality which can calm the soul and cause one to stop listen and enjoy the moment no matter how fleeting .For your first Tanka you have done very well friend, very well indeed !

Thank you, Hitcher, for your review. When I encountered these wind chimes a month ago I recorded them on my phone so I could playback their sound as I wrote. This not only marks my first Tanka, but the first time I recorded an inspiration. Thanks.

I'm going to have to read up on tankas, but it would seem two separate thoughts connected by a similarity in description. The 'pigeons roost in peace' is a great nature statement to connect the two scenes. Well done!

Nicely done. So few precise words capturing your story. The picture is very helpful but not really necessary, you gave me the reader a picture of my own.

Thank you, Thamp, for your review. I write Tanka, Haiku, and Senryu which can stand on their own without pictures and sounds. They are extras for your reading experience, but not really necessary. Thanks.

Dear Sis-Cat,

For the bell tower is still for the bell has been removed. Now wind chimes outside your home remind you to meditate. To me this is quite sad for it implies Christianity is fading. I don't know if that is what you intended, but that is how you spoke to me.

Warm regards,

Winslow

Yes, Winslow, it is sad that bells are being removed from churches. This does imply Christianity is fading. Thank you for your thoughts, observations, and concerns and for your generous, six star review on the subject.

This is beautiful in itself, and as a lovely happening. How wonderful the pigeons are left to their own peaceful worship also! A lovely tanka, blessings...

I am pleased you are enthusiastic about writing Tanka. I heard you were taking the class. I wish I could but I took a class 2 months in a row and need a break. I am somewhat envious but I will take it the next time it is offered.
You have done a wonderful job on your first time.
I had some instruction on Tanka in my last class so Gypsy Sensei could challenge me.
She explained the first three lines are written like a haiku. Then the next two lines are how you feel about the haiku or some sort of insight into the haiku.
The satori becomes what is called a pivotal line.
Take a look at Gypsy's haiku book. I did some collaborations and had to write the last two lines. It was a great way to practise.
I think you did an awesome job. I really like the subject and sound of your Tanka. You are well on your way to great things.

Thank you, Lu, for your encouraging review of my first Tanka. I am looking forward to my first FanStory class. I also appreciate the example you set with your post about the differences between haiku, human haiku, and senryu. This post was instrumental in my decision to pull the ice cream "haiku" from the Haiku Club Challenge book and submit it to the senryu contest where it won. Thanks also for your notes about haiku and tanka construction.
