"Don't Let My Dog Be Left Behind", is an extremely well-written and entertaining piece. This talented poet's work was a pleasure to both read and review. I look forward to seeing your next post.

These words are particularly poignant right now given the fact that many people here in California have had to leave their pets behind as they have been forced to evacuate their properties in the face of the fierce fires plaguing this part of the state.

Yes, nomi338, I have been watching on the news about people forced to abandon their pets because the fire burned so quickly. There have been some tearful reunions and much gnashing of teeth. Thank you for our review.

This is good, but I'm not sure about a song with the lyrics rolf, rolf, rolf. First, you've got to find a singing dog, then you have to teach him the words.

Yes, Thomas, it?s so hard to find a singing dog that I intend to bark Buddy?s line ?Rolf! Rolf!? on stage, but I am not wearing the human sized dog suit. Thank you for generous review.

Read out loud, I can hear the Berry in it. People finally got fed up as our county was developed. I think it is a felony to abandon an animal on the road, now. I like that, although I have had some great pets who were dumped. Good story shared in a poem. Excellent post.

Yes, LIJ Red, I have studying Berry's songs, lyrics, and performances. The man was a genius and one of the founders of Rock 'n' Roll.
In my county, it is illegal to dump pets. It still happens. I am grateful I adopted a cat whose previous owner abandoned her.
Thank you for your review and for reading my lyrics out loud.

This song really resonated with me, as my husband often talks of his favorite pet as a boy... his dog named Buddy. You did a super job of making this sound like a song and it almost sang itself down the page as I read. I loved it, actually. Very touching and heartwarming... kind of a Lassie story in rhyme. Nicely done. I very much look forward to your video. Thanks for sharing your many talents with us. MM

You're welcome, MM, and thank you for your review and encouragement. While I made up the story for this song, Buddy is very much real in that in the back of our minds we all had a pet we had to abandon. I live in Northern California which is being scorched by wildfires. I have watched news footage of owners' tearful reunions with dogs they had to abandon during evacuations. Yes, Buddy is real.
Thank you for your heartfelt review of my Lassie story in rhyme.

MissMerri, as promised, here is the video of my song "Don't Let My Dog Be Left Behind" performed in front of one hundred teenagers. Enjoy:

This boy really loves his dog. But if he cared so much, he wouldn't have forgotten his dog in the first place or would of had him leashed, Then Buddy wouldn't of been in danger of being hit on the highway while he was chasing the car.
This is a funny poem that shows the hardships of road trips with pets.
Good luck and keep writing

Yes, DP, I never let my dog off the leash when I take road trips with her. Sad is when people abandon pets at rest stops.
Thank you for your review of my funny road trip with pets song. I will keep writing.

You're welcome. That is sad. I didn't know that happened.

I did not think the dog was being "accidentally" left behind. It didn't read that way. It was tearing at my heartstrings until it turned around for a nice happy ending. Great work.

Your poetic form definitely feels musical and I am glad Buddy ends up back with his family. There is a strong steady beat and rhythm to your words. Good luck with your open mic performance.

Oh man with the Cali fires this felt super timely. I love the voice of the child and the voice of the parents. And also I'm really glad Bud caught the car. I was worried.

I am glad Buddy caught the car, too. With these Cali fires, those who could evacuated their pets and animals with them. There was so little time. Thank you for your review of my timely song.
