You tell quite a story in just a few lines.

I especially liked:What made it end so sudden was, the cowboy just got old
She was younger by a decade her life was riding high
The cowboy liked his ranchland life and had to pick a side

Love and life is like this ... we often have to make a choice, pick a side and romantic love often does not survive our choices.

A wise and moving write.

This is a sad tale of the lost love of an old cowboy. The poem has a distinctly ballad-like flair that is charming. Best wishes to you, Jeanie Mercer

We all have a picture in our head of how our lives are, should be, could be.
This poem is wonderful, pointing out the differences in viewpoints about a shared life.
Excellent rhymes, rhythm, and imagery.

Another thought provoking piece, Gary. I enjoyed it.

Rich houses and the finer side was not what he had planned
Between the working days and late, late nights her life was so insane>>great lines.

Good job.

A lovely but sad story of how two people can love one another but still not be sould mates. They were from two different generations and two different worlds, he a cowboy, she a city girl. Sometimes it absolutely happens this way. Great writing. Leigh Ann

This is a very well written, poignant love poem
that reminds the reader that not all relationships
end happily for reasons, at times, beyond our
control. I liked the way you developed the story
line.

I do have one or two suggestions for you to consider:
The teaching[s] from our fathers that carry us this far

Thanks for sharing. -ray

I thought this was really good reading. It flowed well and carried through til the end. I like these kind of poems where a story is told.
Nicely done.

What a sad poem about the trials and tribulations of an old cowboy who fell in love with the wrong woman. Is it really about age? Or is it about some women (and men) want the best and will discard what has had its use?
Well written, it flows freely, with excellent rhythm and rhyme.
Warmest regards,
Marijke

deepwater,
Emotional poetry you've written. Excellent imagery, descriptive writing and great narrative. I like the photo or art work you used. I especially liked:

Rich houses and the finer side was not what he had planned
Between the working days and late, late nights her life was so insane
Both tried to close that gap in life but came from different worlds
A logical man his simple life, the ranch was all he had

Thanks for sharing your wonderful rhyming poem. . .Melissa.

Good advice---
sad and poignant like an old cowboy song!!

The trials and tribulations that make us who we are
The teaching from our fathers that carry us this far
The heartaches we must carry to make it day by day
The love from that woman, he lost along the way
