What a wonderful tribute to your father. I am sure he would be (or is - as I am sure he still knows what you are doing!) very proud of you, and thrilled with this well written and thought provoking piece.
Warmest regards, Marijke

I really enjoyed this piece. You constructed a thoroughly convincing depiction of a profound passion, almost an addiction for life at sea.
Truly enjoyable!
All the best,
Nadia

Hi deepwater
Great tribute to your father and indeed to all those who served at sea. My own father served in the RN and his service left some deep scars - especially after Ramillies was torpedoed at Diego Suarez - then he went on the the Burmese campaign in Coastal Forces...
I don't think this present generation have the faintest idea of what these men sacrificed for our security and comfort and I get really angry when I hear some young twit denigrating the servicemen and women who did this.

Good job D, It's obvious how proud of your father you are. You have written a few things about him if I'm not mistaken. If that is your father in the picture, he was very handsome.

THIS IS A NICE CHRONICLE OF THE LIFE AND TIMES OF A MAN WHO LIVED FOR THE SEA. You told the story like one who really was close to a seaman. Your words are well chosen and applied. Good read. cheers

Gary, the sea is in itself a journey of unbridled exploration. Each port brings a new adventure. The sea is like a wild stallion, daring to be tamed. Its to be respected, not feared.
Thanks.

A very special picture here. How do we thank someone like this person, who helped the world to be safe to live in.
To be at peace again without war.
I feel so much for the men and women, who protected us everyday when they faced war to save us.
I love the picture and the words written as they told us so much about this man and others who died or injured to bring peace to our world.

The sea is a powerful lure to those who sail her. They return, because the waves are in their body and blood, and dry land, even peopled with loved ones, does not conquer this powerful pull.
Excellent.

This is an interesting and wise poem that looks at soldiers and sailors that spend time away from their families and led lives without having much control of their own volition.

This is a very nice poem. It is a very loving tribute to your father. The rhyming is very good and so is the meter. More important, the message of love is well delivered in your poem. Great job, Thank you for sharing, Shirley
