Your poem reminds me of a man I worked with over 30 years ago. He talked of running off at the age of sixteen to fight in the World War. I asked him about the tanks and jeeps. He told me of Mules pulling cannons that were converted to hold shells. Nice write.

The message here is clear, and the writing virtually without flaw, but for $1.63, I will come up with a suggestion that is an improvement in my opinion, since that is what reviewing is about. I might say the last line thus
"Will this be the day I make my way to the cross which is waiting for me?"

A nice tribute. Almost hymn-like this write captures the moment of which I am sure many will not not or should not have the chance to experience. It is a dark time, war, yet it seems to be synonymous with man. Still the brave and young sacrifice for a cause deemed worthy, and so heroes are made and sons lost.
Good write,
Best wishes,
RGstar

You have a smooth flow of lines that captures the feelings and emotion of the soldiers at war. We get the call,we make the move as young lions run with pride, is a vivid line that gives a cler picture of the determination of these soldiers. Excellent poem about a war not often written about.

Hi deepwater,

This is an excellent poem with a different take on the legacy of the World Wars. Your poem highlights the personal nature of the wars which is often overlooked in history books. Thanks for sharing! R

This gave me chills...to look around and see less men standing....and wonder if you will next...how awful and how brave..........
I make my way to the cross, which is waiting for me...
Well done
God bless

i think this poem could be truly exceptional, but there were maybe two places that i didn't like that much. first of all I LOVED the begining - the first 5 lines were awesome (I could read them out loud again and again)
but as something changed in the way the lines were built starting with the 6th line, the poem lost a bit of its strength - it didn't sound so well and the rhythm didn't really fit (or I just failed to find it). then it got better with the ending, but it still wasn't as good as the beggining was.

my least favorite line - Tomorrow will bring the same as today with less of my brothers beside,

apart from the above stated i really loved this poem. the above said is said only for you if you want to look at the poem again...

the images described were truly strong and sad. if only we wanted to learn a lesson without repeating the same mistakes decades after...

Sadly, the fears and tales within happen much too frequently to our young people deployed to hot spots around the world. Your writing is eloquent and I am pleased you are recording these thoughts. Thank you for posting.

Too many of our younger ones
Don't really know the sacrifices
men and women of this country have made
To enable us to enjoy the life we're living

Well done, Buck

Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

This poem is especially relevant now as we observe the hundredth anniversary of the First World War. Nothing has changed, except that the weapons have become more devastating and most of the casualties now are civilians. It breaks the heart.
