I like the reference to all the things that went on over the years, in this relationship, yet it managed to survive, at least until now. The big question you pose at the end is whether it is going to be allowed to continue and if so, what then? Good question that is probably asked in a great deal of relationships.

Loved this poem and the accompany photograph. Life surely is a surprise, every single day. But, the great things are worth it and the bad things are, too. They make us the person we end up becoming.

A powerfully reflective poem. There comes a time in all our lives when we ponder, "Where to, now?" and so I think your poem will have a universal appeal. "Discarded vows, for greener promised lands" describes only too well the path to the destruction of trust and a relationship of love.

An evocative write on love lost.
Like how it moves from darkness to the light of hope's surprise.
I think that everyone can relate to the sentiment.

First I wanted to say that the image you chose for this poem was a great fit, it was raw and powerful just like your poem. Also this was my favorite line "Discarded vows, for greener promised lands", its very relatable and it makes me feel something, which great poems are supposed to do. Thanks for sharing!

Very thought provoking piece. Both looking back in years and into the future. I like the flow. Almost a mix of free verse and rhyme. Nice job,

can you surmise? Great ending to a beautifully written, thought provoking poem. Who knows what will happen next.
I used to say, divorce happens when people don't work hard enough at their marriage. Then my 30 year marriage ended and I realized it takes two to give 100% all the time to make it work. Needless to say, I only have more questions and very few answers. Well done gw.
Blessings

This sounds like the story of a couple who has weathered a lot. They've seem all sorts of problems--discarded vows, distrust and heartache, etc. Who knows what might come next? Interesting note to end with a question. Excellent rhyming couplets. I think you use commas in the middle of sentences that aren't necessary, For example. My trust is the nightmare that played us a-part. No need for a comma.

deepwater: I believe that we will continue to trudge along like we always have. Sometimes we will glide along on ice skates or roller skates and other times we'll just rock slowly in our rocking chairs . . . but we will keep going! Nice contemplative read. livelylinda
