This is a wonderful story for putting the message into a form children can easily relate to. It is a joy to read even for adults. The story and gang add a fresh sweetness to the the celebration of Christmas.

I like rhyming poems, which is why I like your children's poetry. You told an interesting Christmas story that mice helped baby Jesus when he was a baby, which must make them proud.

Well done.

A darling Christmas story, Sandra!
How I love anthropomorphic stories - especially at Christmas!
And children of all ages will enjoy your newest addition to the "Hedgerow Capers Gang!"
My favorite stanza is as follows:
The mice scurried off to gather some hay;
Miss Sheep rubbed her coat till the wool came away.
Miss Cow cleaned the manger until it was bare,
then pulled up a hay bale, which made a great chair.

Thank you for sharing!

A nice contribution to the contest. Just one small correction to make:

"And tonight is his Birthday," Daddy Mouse smiled, **INSERT OPEN QUITE HERE**
and Santa is bringing a gift for each child."

The poem does not rhyme during the setup as Daddy Mouse is getting ready to read to them, and I think that is fine, as it is part of the setup and provides the reader with a brief change in tone, kind of like the Princess Bride narrative style.

Thanks for the fun read!

Thank you for reading my poem. I wasn't sure what you meant about it not rhyming during the set-up, though, or what you meant about **INSERT OPEN QUITE HERE**. But I'm really pleased you enjoyed the poem. Have a lovely day. Sandra

Sorry, that was a typo on my part! It should have said OPEN QUOTE. A quotation mark is missing.

Here is what I meant about missing rhymes (see line comments, demarcated by "**")

Timmy and Tommy Mouse sat in their beds,
both had a soft pillow for resting their heads. **rhyming observed**
Eagerly waiting for Daddy to come
and read them a story?a Christmassy one. **near rhyme**

Daddy Mouse came after just a short time,
and carried a book that was written in rhyme. **this rhymes**
He pulled up a chair and sat down beside
his sons, who were now wearing grins a mile wide. **rhymes**

?On this special night I?ll tell you the one
about Christmas Eve and the birth of God?s son.? **rhymes**

So I think the issue is that Fanstory was not wrapping your text properly on my device, and I could not see all your rhymes. It turns out you were rhyming after all! My bad.

You had me worried for a moment!! Lol. I'm glad you can see it rhymes now. Thanks for coming back and explaining. That was nice of you. :)

Well done, Sandy. God had blessed you with talent not many have. Reaching children to their level is amazing. I see nothing wrong. Humbling to the mind.

Oh here we go! It vis that time of the year again. Someone had to kick it off and it might as well be the mice family as anyone else. This is in the best Beatrix Potter anthropomorphic traditions as well as being a fine adaptation. I hav always felt it a same that no one invited the pigs to this Christmas party but of course, they were the unclean beasts so there was no room for them not only in the inn but in the stable as well.

The children will love this, especially the ingenuity of the sheep!

Do you fancy a chat before 4.00 pm?

Hi Jim, I'm so sorry I missed you, I had my granddaughter and her boyfriend come round to see me and they ended up staying for dinner! I'm all over the place this week, getting the last things ready for our holiday, but if it's ok with you, I'll ring you when I'm home. I think I'll be in tomorrow afternoon, and Tuesday most of the day. Hit and miss after that.
Thanks for reading my Christmas poem, it's been a long time since I wrote about my Hedgerow boys. I'm glad you liked it. Love and hugs, my friend. Sandra xx

Sandra,

You have outdone yourself. This should definitely be published as a children's book. The story is so beautifully told about how all of God's creatures were eager to participate in helping the newborn Jesus. There are millions of children who could benefit from hearing the story told in this way. If you have 50 other stories, you would have a fantastic series. I know publishing and marketing is difficult, and woke publishers aren't interested in this kind of thing, but there are some legitimate Christian publishers who might be excited to publish your work. Your talent shouldn't be limited to a FanStory audience.

What a lovely thing to say, Sue, thank you so much. I've had fun writing my Hedgerow Capers stories but hadn't written any for a few years. It was one of the Fanstorians asked me if I'd write them again, so I wrote this one. If was fun. It's lovely that you enjoyed it. I might try a Christian publisher, thank you for the suggestion. I don't think I'd get very far with traditional ones, there are too many children authors out there.
Thank you so much for the six stars, that was very generous of you and I really appreciated it. Warm hugs, my friend. Sandra xx
