It's a beautiful thought you have here, one that we wish more men will share, because it seems that less and less want to defend their country.

I can so relate to this one because of my dad. I especially appreciate the line 'our service was a choice we made.' It is true old soldiers never die. ann

It is interesting that the chain isn't broken here. The next generation comes along before the "old soldiers" have completely faded away. You present a noble picture of this generation of warriors who will do whatever it takes to defend all they hold dear. Very nice.

Lovely poem. I felt a bit of emotion rising to the surface on this one. Touching but not over done. A perfect hint of Sorrow and Unity. Very well written. I hope you get many awards for this.

I really like this poem. I like the message that soldiers and what they fight for continue generation after generation. What a statement about being brothers in arm and going beyond Heaven and Earth

I have a soldier daughter, and it is the hardest thing to know all that they have gone through to protect this country, and nothing make me mader than those who don't support our soldiers wherever they may be. Well done.

A very moving poem my friend, about courage and an unique bond between all hose who serve their country.
Knowing we would always go a little further than requested
Crossing heaven or earth to defend our families and country
We are brothers in arms

This is a wonderful tribute to our fallen soldiers. It's true we must remember they made their choice to defend our country knowing they might not come back. Still, they had brave hearts and we could not live in freedom without them.
Peace, Joan

Hi DW,
I grew up in the USMC so I know the sentiments, well, that reside in the beautiful words of your poem. I read somewhere recently that about 2/3 of the soldiers that fought in Viet Nam were volunteers. It seemed at the time we only heard draft contraversy. Good work!
