Thanks, Patrick - what a great compliment :-). I was determined to have it go full circle and make sense to readers as well as me, whilst still flirting with the abstract a little, of course!

I think we are kindred spirits, Brooke :-). I was never taught grammar at school, but one A-Level teacher took it on himself to drum in as many obscure rules and words as he could manage between the mandated texts of the curriculum. He has my eternal gratitude for that.
