I know I missed chapters of this book, but I do (amazingly) remember at least one chap of this where I asked the q posted here--my best answer was due to the abuser threatening the abussee's family with death...I thank you for the other reasons. May I ask how you know so much about this subject? Forgive me if I'm out of line and you don't of course have to answer...
Great spelling, grammar, and that sort of stuff! If you haven't already, you should write a book, on this or other subjects!

barbara:
I also just got a new laptop and haven't had the time to figure it out because my granddaughter became ill just as
I could pick it up from the Geek Squad and now I'm out of
town.
This is another fine chapter. The tricky thing about the
underground efforts to help abused women is there is no
way to get help to a particular woman.
One small piece of spag for you below
Thanks for sharing

Lady barbara wilkey,
That'll teach the fool to suck eggs.
Congratulations on the new "thinker toy". Is it broken to ride, yet?
Battered women, elder abuse, child abuse, spousal abuse, all are enough to drive a rational person up the wall.
So often the victim is financially handicapped and is absolutely dependent on outside help, if they are willing to accept it.
As you noted, here is almost always a psychological block on the part of the abused.
The infuriating part is when the abuser feels it's his right to disipline his family the way he chooses.
Nicely done,
Fantasist

I better led Mom know I'll be there for dinner.
[S.B. I better let...] Found no other problems. Story is coming along nicely. How are you doing? Are you able to rest with school being out, or has life given you other plans? You're in my prayers. Fiesty.

Thank you for sharing all that you did in the author notes. Domestic violence is quite an ugly thing and a cycle hard to break. People can seem so normal and loving but who knows what really goes on in their homes?

They have a PI watching Ellen, hoping she will lead them to Anna. In a way this poses a danger to Anna as Bobby could be watching their moves and he could be in on the happenings. In a way, they could be "helping" Bobby find Anna.
This chapter reminds me how dangerous it is to work as a volunteer for abused women. The husbands could turn on the volunteers too.
Anna will have to make an appearance one day, there's no hiding from these watchful eyes, not forever.
The nurse turned and walked partway to Troy. "I can assure you they're safe." She turned and left.
Ellen is telling Troy something that's "sensitive", not to be disclosed to the public. "partway" seems to imply she was not standing close to Troy when she spoke. I would bring her closer, otherwise she would have to speak louder for Troy to hear. You also have 2 mentions of "turned" in this short paragraph, suggest deleting one of them. Maybe something like this -
The nurse walked back towards Troy. She leaned in and whispered, "I can assure you they're safe." Then she turned and left.

Hi, Barbara, nothing much happens here but there are leads to follow, which make your story interesting as always. Thanks for quoting the various ways battered women think of their abusers, according to their conditions.

Barbara,
This is an excellent chapter. Looks like Anna and her baby are deep underground, and it would be best if Troy stays out of the matter.
I enjoyed this read and have a couple of suggestions:
"I didn't think anything of it at the time, but now [when] I think back (comma here) something felt strange." I think my suggested changes would make this sentence easier to read.
"Yes, but she's denying [she denies] knowing anything." Of course, she would do that. How does she know that the private eye is employed by someone who wants to help Anna?

Another great chapter. Well written with just the one small nit (above). At least we know that Anna and the baby are safe from Bobby for now.
