I think they're smart to think of getting the tavern owner to press charges. It'll definitely buy Anna time and some peace. This is turning into a true family involvement.
Anyway to know how much more time she can be missing
Here you need to put "Any ways" - two words as you mean any methods of knowing.
Margaret stepped outside and motioned with her right hand to someone.

A person I knew who was domestically abused to the point of being hospitalized was told over and over "You are so dumb and ugly, you should be thankful I pay attention to you - nobody else ever would." among other things. She really believed she was a disgusting person no one could possibly love. Broke my heart. Today she is quite successful and happy.

You said in your author's notes just what I was going to say...abused women often stay because their abusers threaten the children or other family members. It is truly tragic, and a difficult situation for a woman to get out of. I hope your story has a happy ending...
