I suppose there's so much that's been written about wars and the affects that emanate from those things, I still think the First World War was the most wasteful theatre of young life, a tragedy of an old man's war fought by the young, articulate, well written, blessings, Roy

this is excellent writing, deepwater, you did an excellent job writing this poem about the horrors of war that surrounds the writer, and looking for prayers of peace.

The art work is very telling ."what terrors will come we brothers in arms"-This is a very evocative poem speaking about the reality of war and written from the soldiers mind.wars are a waste ,the direct result of human greed. this is a well written poem with anti war sentiment.

I find it nearly impossible to figure the incredible amount of courage of the many young men who face certain death on the battlefield every day. I too was in the military in the early sixties, but was fortunate enough to never have to see any hostile action. I really want to believe that I would have conducted myself appropriately when called upon to do so. I am so happy that the need to do so never came.

All wars are a waste of human lives. This poem really denotes that in a very subtle way. This poem speaks to me in so many ways. It is an excellently written war protest and it also touches on the brave lives that are lost in war. This was just an excellent thought presentation that deserves all six stars awarded here... John

"The company we keep" This is a very good poem you have created here in remembrance of the people connected to The Great War. I cannot help but think whether that was all worthwhile, if you see what is happening even to this day. People do not learn a lesson. Well done.

This is a moving look into the mind and souls of soldiers in the field. he first person narrative is very effective. particularly liked the following line:
Then look around for sight or sound from friends we lost this day,
Brings home the harsh reality of loss.

The first and second world war were terrible times. The havoc knows no boundary. So beautifully written and eloquently described in this narrative poem. My best lines, "As fear and death lie all around, upon this field so gray,
What terrors will come, we brothers in arms?
So young so brave, we stand today to keep the faith of our fathers,"

Very moving poem about the soldiers who fought in WW1 (tho it could be any war.)
This poem has a universal appeal as planet earth is indeed, a warring planet and all combatants probably have pretty much the same feelings - (which you so eloquently express.)
Reminds me of the saying re: WW1 "There are no atheists in foxholes."
One question:
"hundreds have before me" - that count seems a little low to me.
Overall, well done.
