I love the poem and the picture, both beautiful. Nothing can compare to the love of a couple who have lived and loved together for a number of years. I could feel your concern for your wife and was delighted to read she made a full recovery.

A stunning and beautiful poem of love and tenderness. The imagery presented lets your reader see the scene.
You can give have my last six as it is well-deserved.
I am glad your bride is now cancer-free after going through some rough times.
Best wishes,
Mary

Isn't it wonderful that people don't need to spend a pile of money on a cruise or some other big venture to create great memories?! As your lovely, moving poem conveys, a nighttime stroll with spouse and pet is enough.

Comment from Jenifer Bellott
I'm quite selective with my six stars, and this poem most definitely earned it. First of all, it brought tears to my eyes, and any poem that evokes such strong emotion deserves that sixth star.
I began tearing up at the lines, "The still night does nothing to slow the rush of love/that is tugging itself outward from the depths of my soul" because of the sweetness and tenderness it expressed. The lines immediately following elicited a different sort of tear, because I can relate to the fear and stress cancer causes. I'm so happy to hear your wife has been five years cancer free! Amen, indeed!
Secondly, I gave this poem six stars because of your use of imagery and clever wordplay. Not only did your descriptions make me believe I could see the scene as it unfolded, I could feel it--specifically in the line, "taking in the last of summer's warmth rising from the smooth pavers." I appreciated your internal rhyme of " measure of pleasure".
Finally your last stanza expressed such a sweet sentiment and summed up the story and your love for her beautifully. I enjoyed your use of the word "sips" following your wish to "bottle" the moment-such a nice intertwining.
You did a fabulous job, and I look forward to reading more from you!

This is a beautifully written free verse. I love that the artwork served as your muse.
The writing is descriptive and pulled me in straight away. The memory you shared is full of emotion and the sentiment is heartfelt.

Hello JLR, a heartfelt poem and a poem that makes you say Ah as the reader holds back a tear after reading the last verse which is my favorite. Your poem has brought the photo to life. Real writing. I can see it all.
As a five-year cancer survivor, I can relate to this poem and know the joy of being cancer-free. The two of you have climbed a mountain together.
Best wishes for continued well health. As this is a contest entry, I wish you good luck. LateBloomer

Simply beautiful my friend. Your words fill the photo with wonderment and a sense of despair. seemingly a last walk for some time to come. Perhaps for this loved one it was a chance to grow, to start over and to flourish.

This is such a beautiful picture and I love the words you have shared in your poem to describe it. Battling cancer is no fun, but I am glad that she had your support and that you have great memories to share.
