Nice twist at the end I did not see that coming. You were able to pack a lot of plot into 100 words. Thank you for sharing. Very nice job. Good luck in the contest.

This one-hundred-word story, Sodbuster, has the proper word count and hints to a bit of "justified" homicide on the part of our gentleman farmer. See ya, Erma.

Wow, this was an unexpected plot turn in a very short story. Great job! Gave me the creeps, as one expects from this kind of story. Good Luck in the contest!

Excellent entry for the 100 Word Story writing prompt contest. Well written and follows the contest rules. It's hard to tell a complete story in 100 words but you managed well.

Interesting tale about a murdered cheating woman and the farmer who killed her for deception and inhertance

Well done! Good luck in the club

Now I am wondering why the farmer found a skull in the field. Would he not have reported finding a skull? It sounds like a mystery in the making as he had inherited the farm.

Nice story about farm life with a twist.
Easy read with good flow. Would like to read more about Erma and how long has the body been in the field. Could make a super novel.

I'm sorry, I've read this six times and I'm still confused. Is the sodbuster a different person than the farmer? And if so, why is he saying "we meet again" when it was the farmer who uncovered the skull? Or is the machinery assuming it's someone's pet and the farmer knows better? If so, calling him farmer in one sentence and a sodbuster in another makes it sound like two different characters. And how did Erma cheat if she simply disappeared? Did the farmer know she was there because he killed her? If so, why does he accuse her of abandoning her family when he murdered her. I don't know. The premise is great, but the execution left me with way too many questions. I went nutty trying to figure it all out.

Sodbuster is another well known name for a farmer.

    Since when does machinery talk?

    Erma disappeared because she cheated.

Of course the farmer/sodbuster killed her.

Erma abandoned the family to go with her lover.

Come on. This is a simple 100 word story.

Not sure how you can be so confused by it.

OK, now that you've explained it, I'm a little more able to tell you exactly why I got confused. Why would the farmer bother thinking the skull was someone's pet when he knew exactly who it was? It throws the whole thing off. Especially because I had in my mind that the farmer and sodbuster were two different people. I grew up in farm country. Never in my life have I heard the term sodbuster. Oh, well.

LOL, excellent short story for this contest. Good luck, it will get my vote. I do think revenge must be made all the sweeter with the cultivation of some sweet corn to come in the summer! Good job. Terry.

A mystery? Who was it that killed the woman. The farmer. I was led to believe not, asking if it was an animal. Then, again, he recognized her. Was it he that did the deed?
