I enjoyed your interpretation of the Brigantine's voyage and its captain and crew JLR. You created quite a visible scene in my head, well told. Cheers

It's like you have done this before, although it seems like this is in the distant past. Nice mixture of nautical terms lends an authenticity to this poem.

Yes, over years I have written several variations of nautical themed poems.

I think I have the smell of salt in the air while reading your well-crafted free verse poem. Your descriptions are wonderful and I enjoyed all the nautical terms that made it feel so authentic.

Nice free verse! I'd never have guessed you were a "Landlubber"--this reads as true as if you'd experienced it all yourself! I love the sea--but, like you, prefer to haze at those ships from the shore! Nice alliteration, fine descriptions, lots of authentic sailing terms and done in a style of verse I am just now learning to (attempt to) write in!

Ah, it is good to read the seeds are planted for a new free verser! I can't wait to read the contributions you glean from the depths of your soul ....
-
Over the past month I've posted three or four...after some fifty years of largely rhymed verse. I find free verse fascinating!
-
Awesome, I am going to look them up!! I am literally - three years into learning to write poetry. I stuffed this part of my soul while in corporate life and started writing after I retired.
-
I've written as a hobby and avocation since I was eleven...my career was in Nursing. Now retired, I write for my pleasure and an occasional published bit here or there. I stuck to pretty much rhyming poetry for most of my years. A few poets here really touched me with their free verse and encouraged me to give it a try. I think three or four of my last five or six are free verse. It's very (here's a surprise) FREEING! Releasing the rhyme and meter and letting the words flow! (smile)

There is so much great alliteration here, it is hard to know where to start. The sounds of your onomatopoetic words brings this painting alive. We can hear the bells, the men in their excitement, the splashing of the water, the winds, the banging of the barrels. There is even the rocking rhythm of the lines to mimic the boat's motion.

Enjoyed your dramatic sea adventure poem. Thank you for sharing about St. Brendan, a saint I never heard of. Seems like you have a lot of sailing knowledge. I especially liked the last five lines.

Thank you, while always being a landlubber at heart - I have passion for the historic naval achievements that propelled exploration.

You obviously know a great deal about sailing and have incorporated the terms and expressions and duties into your interesting poem. It flows well, true to theme. The information in your notes is helpful - thanks for including it.

Very nicely done. Very credible imagery. Good work.
It's work I wouldn't want. I'd be happy dig ditches in rock or muck before working a sailing ship.
Best wishes.

In my opinion, a stunning, smoothly flowing free verse that captured and held me throughout my read. I found it poetically articulated and informative, a thoroughly enjoyable descriptive write about a seafaring odyssey...
