I'm watching the original Sylvester Stallone Rocky movie.
And, he's in an ice skating rink on his first date with Adrian.
He spoke of his fighting career.
And, then he told her that he fights with his left.
So, he's a Southpaw.
And, then he described how the word came about.
As he said there was a fighter.
(Left handed)
And, he thinks he's from Philadelphia.
And, when he would stand.
Yes, he would hold his arm out to the South.
(which was New Jersey)
And, hence he was called
"A South Paw"

I love your story and the the ending is perfect. Writing this very short stories is more difficult than some people think.The title is also very good.

Assumptions both ways - people are always ready to judge others' interests and abilities based on looks. I was a bit surprised that the young man would address an elderly man as Shorty - seemed a bit disrespectful to me. (Maybe it's a cultural thing, or maybe I'm getting old!) I'll check out the club.

This was a fun piece about stereotypes and assumptions that also tells us something about politeness in society and how we deal with others. When you used the description 'big-handed' I got an almost cartoon image of a server ferrying out pizzas using his giant hands as platters, so I guess I'm guilty too :-)
