Sounds like you have a little bit of everything in this one including Ray Charles. This is fun and fresh as a summer rain. Now for the real thing.

Very nice response to "How Do I Love Thee." True, from what I see on television news and hear on radio, Texas is indeed in dire shape and headed for even more very hot, dry weather. Triple digit temps expected for the next week or so? Horrible.
My sympathies, great poem.

thanks, Gary.
We have been having triple digits already. Yards and plants are brown, and my sister in S.C. has been having rain every evening for weeks! Told her they need to share. :)

Well, most of this poem worked pretty well until the last cliche, "it aint gonna rain no mo, no mo". to me this was totally out of place. Tighten up the words some, "seem" has no tangible meaning for example. "once again' has no need to be in the poem. Great first draft.

Sorry Bev. This was not meant to be perfect poetic form. I just added a little humor at the end.

I can feel your pain. Now the irony is that I am writing this review in the midst of a downpour. They just announced on the TV that we have just had 1.6" of rain in the last 45 min. I wish we could send some your way. I have read that some people would like divert the Mississippi River to bring water west. Hope you get some rain.

well, I'm glad you've got some. I doubt seriously that Old Man River will get diverted. I just wish some enterpriseing soul would seed the clouds. We do get clouds, but just white, fluffy ones.
Thanks for reading and for your comments,
Katharine

Well, as for the Old Man River diversion, it is being explored right now. It could be a viable solution if the West continues to percolate. Have you seen Lake Mead at Hoover Dam. Actually, during flood season it might be beneficial to divert water.
-
No, I haven't, but we would gladly and appreciatively take water from whomever is willing to send it.
-
Well, not sure where they would take it from, but my guess is the Missouri River near the beginning. It would be a shorter trip. Not sure how agreeable those people would be to that. I live in the Midwest and we have plenty of water. I would be happy to share. Not sure about everyone else though.
Now the real story is the lakes that are drying up in the West. By that I mean as the lakes dry up they are finding dead bodies. I can see all the story plots that can come from that.
-
probably illegals, though maybe not. Don't know why I haven't heard about it! If not illegals, yes, would make for neat plots. I'll have to see if I can get the scoop on that.
-
don't know about the illegals, but a lot around Las Vegas. I tell you it smells like a story there. Lot of intrigue too.
-
think you should write it :)
-
I always had this thing for Vegas. Goes back to when I was single. lol

This is a very amusing takeoff on EBB's How Do I Love Thee? It's also a sad truth that rain is needed in many areas of the country. Best wishes in the Your Favorite Poem contest.

You have written an interesting poem of what Texas needs most at this time, inspired by the great Elizabeth Browning. Just one point if I may. I don't think it's correct to mix thee and you/your in the same poem. Kate xx

am chuckling, Kate. (I love the name, Kate!) You mean in these crazy times a writer can't mutilate, or rather improvise a bit with their version of a famous poet's words? No, I think you are quite right and I will change it. Thanks.

Just look what happened in Las Vegas. Rain has flooded many of the casinos. It is nice to get rain, however, not flooding rains. That does much damage to business and home owners. May God bless Texas with the correct amount of rain, without causing more havoc. Thank you for sharing.
