This was a real treat to a sonneteer in me. It is my favorite form and you did it justice, I liked the archaic tone and the use of an old English language. Great imagery, visuals and presentation,
Thanks you for sharing, I really enhoiyed this one.

Comment from Pam (respa)
-Very nice artwork and presentation.
-You wrote a good sonnet with a good topic.
-A good opening verse establishes the premise.
-It is developed further in verse two as you
"kneel this day, my vows sincere."
-A good turn or volta when the mood shifts
with "Rise up! Delight the stars!"
-A good closing couplet, as well.
-Well done!!

What a wonderful poem of hope that all will choose to turn to Christ to be forgiven of their sins and assured of eternal peace and rest with Him. You wrote this sonnet beautifully.

I love 'defeat death's chains' - that's a line rife with power and determination, and indeed interpretation of the ways in which we might beat death, literal or otherwise. This was an awesome sonnet, packed with park and powerful imagery.

Well, if this is what a sonnet be, I am sure someone more intellectual than I will agree but I am trying even late in life to understood what Shakespeare wrote in his love sonnet collection. Is this Iambic? I do not know but good luck, if indeed, it is needed.

Hey Tom, I trust all is well down the mountain. Yep, iambic, yep, I agree one needs a dictionary of archaic words to unlock the Shakespearean iambic pentameter. While I write, most comfortably, free verse poetry, I dip my toes into the dark lagoons of poetic styles from time to time. Thanks for always sharing your thoughts ? Someday maybe we can hook up at the Hare and Hound ? Jim

Sure, that?s in Landrum, right? Be well.

A faithful and uplifting sonnet as our beliefs sooth us in life when we think we have an afterlife. Perfect metre and good rhymes and your rhythmic sonnet shone here and I am so glad you shared this sonnet with us because it deserves a six.
I just have one suggestion here for you:
(Morose, (am I)! But not dismayed, at Thee,). This puts the emphasis (stress) on (I) which is better than (am).
Love Dolly x

Dolly, thank for your thoughtfulness and kind words. You and Pantygnt (Jim) are the two who have help me crack the code. I am profoundly grateful. Now I feel I can start to employ metre in more works with more confidence.

This is a very gracious poem about God and man. When we worship our God, we are truly blessed in so many ways. He is our keeper night and day. He is watching us every minute of the day.

Comment from Jannypan (Jan)
I enjoyed reading your sonnet, JLR. You did a great job
with its presentation. I liked the color scheme, the message,
the smooth flow, and the rhymes. Your message was well-
expressed in a meaningful way. I believe the meter is
correct, too. My tiny suggestion is with the word 'groan'
in line 10. May I suggest pray or weep? Line 1 small g on grant, too.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

As is the case with this effort, you, Jan, always bring about thoughtfulness and skillfully offer improvements with your suggestions, Thank you.
Comment from Gloria ....
This is a lovely requiem, J. Your metre just keeps improving with each sonnet you write. Not a wasted word here, so I have no suggestions for improvement, as I think it is stellar just as is.
Thank you for sharing. :))
