Hi Jim, I have a girlfriend...and her daughter
goes to classes to make things of clay...actually
the one on the right in your picture looks
like on of hers...

she makes pottery out of so many things...
she doesn't sell them...but I know potters do it for a
job...they make a living from the pottery they sell...

I love your poem sweet guy...and love the picture...
well done you...a great Loop poem...Good Luck in the contest...love Linda xxoo

Linda, thank you! While throwing vessels made from clay can become a livelihood for some. I love to make empty vessels and gift them to friends and charities. Although, in August a gallery is hosting a meet the artist and showing a collection of vessels I am currently making. I truly appreciate your kind and supportive words. Big Hugs of Thanks, Jim

Linda, I am afraid that the chipping away of ceramic objects over time, do not repair well.

Jim, I know crazy glue doesn't work...
the ceramic pulls away from it...sigh...

Thank You for letting me know...🤗

I am a pottery lover and although I am an artist who has worked with her hands her whole life, I have never tried the pottery wheel. You pay tribute to the process and the creator in this poem. I could feel the moist clay in his hands.

Ginda, a fellow artist and poet. Oh my! I spend equal parts of my days in the studio, with a balls of clay and my wheel, crating empty vessels and the other part of my day is writing and reading poetry. What a life!

I liked how you used these repeating words and phrases from line to line in this tight quatrain stanza format to create the looping, spinning effect of the pots on the wheel. You also get that feel of the potters emotions, his love and care, going into the pots. Pottery is big in North Carolina. I did a three poem series on potting in my book Carolina Pastorals a couple of years back. Tried something along these lines but more open ended, free verse in style. estory

estory, yes NC has an abdunance of potters, including my wife and myself. We have just been juired into our first gallery, with a show in August. I love the wheel and the complexity of throwing vessels.

Seagrove the best. Went there a few years back and bought some great pieces, mostly gifts, but I have one face jug pot from King Pottery on my deck. estory

Lovely Loop poem and I enjoyed the theme of a potter's wheel and the creation of different items of beauty and utility. What came across was the pleasure and satisfaction of the potter. Very nice. Best wishes for the contest.

Thank you Wendy, that is precisely how I feel every day spending time forming vessels from balls of clay. Time literally comes to a halt when I'm in the studio.

JLR, conceptually, I think you've got a good theme here for a loop poem. And you've almost hit upon a very good poem. I can't get comfortable with the "jars filled with ... a dollar". That rhyme seems forced and nonsensical. There are lot of words that could be substituted for taller. I wonder if there isn't a better rhyme combination that could be substituted (which would also mean changing the first word of the last stanza)? I've not attempted a loop poem but I can appreciate the challenge they present.

Charles, I so value your comments. Thank you! I may be quite old school both by age and because I am an old soul by nature. But I remember quite vividly that my Grams had a cookie jar set high on a shelf that never had any cookies, but it did contain the loose change that she nested away from savings and the sale of eggs. I can not think of a time when she may have had a folding dollar, but he change would make up the sum of a dollar or more.
