This was fantastic! You had me laughing many times here as I envisioned the mayor making his rounds trying to hide his disgust. No wonder you're a recognized writer! I loved this, keep it up! Also, I saw your milestone 750 post recognition! That is nothing short of impressive, I don't think I could write that many things in 2 lifetimes! You've got a new fan here for sure!

Thank you very much. I just love telling stories. I have so many characters living in my brain. They all have a story to tell. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Gretchen

I can tell! Each character, even though it was a short story without much dialogue from anyone other than the mayor had

Ahh! I accidentally hit something on my phone and it sent it before I was done. I was going to say that each character had so much personality, even though some had few lines. Your descriptions of them summed them up perfectly, so it was easy to picture it all playing out. I?m taking notes, because I would love to learn how to write a good short story. You?ve got it down!

Now that is the best decision a mayor could make, especially since he doesn't like deviled eggs anyway. It was a touchy gesture. He made Evelyn's day.
Excellent dialog and descriptions. You did a great job showing the action from the mayor's POV.

I loved this story! I also loved deviled eggs. Your post made me yearn for those my mom used to make. I do a pretty good job but my mother's was far and above mine. Or maybe that's just my memories talking. Anyway, I do believe deviled eggs are on the menu tonight! By the way, I'm glad little Evelyn won.

Wonderful, unforgettable story woven around an incident that seems so insignificant. There is (was) a magazine called Country Woman. You might check them out on the newsstand. This is their kind of story although it isn't exactly "country".

I will check it out. Thank you. I used to send things to magazines back when snail mail was the rage. All that anticipation waiting. Online submissions aren't quite the same. Lol. Thank you for the awesome review and the extra star. Gretchen

I hope you've satisfied your craving for deviled eggs, lol. This was a cute piece, and the beginning was hilarious. I lived the stench from the plates of deviled eggs and his wishing it was the end of his term in office. I loved this one. Best, JohnC

I made some last night. Lol. Thank you for this awesome review. Glad you liked it. I'll admit, I laughed when I thought about the man walking in and comparing the smell to lucifers underpants. Gretchen

I love a good deviled egg! This story had me laughing all through to nearly the end. Your description of the eggs and their owners was perfect.
The mayors decision brought the story full circle and tugged at my heart.
Brilliantly done, Gretchen.
Cheers to not being in close proximity with the mayor afterwards.... John

Thanks so much, John. I really appreciate this review. I was craving deviled eggs, wrote the story, finally got around to making them last night. Lol. Full circle in its truest fashion. Gretchen

I happen to crave deviled eggs, myself on occasion. Thank you for sharing this post with us. I am positive the mayor made the right decision. I couldn't find any way to improve this post.

Hello Gretchen,
This story was both funny and touching and highly entertaining. Well done gal! I happen to love deviled eggs myself. I'm usually the one who makes them in my house. A little mayo, mustard and a shot of vinegar and if I'm feeling festive, a sprinkle of paprika. I really loved this story. Keep up the good work.
Have a blessed evening.

Now I want deviled eggs. This is a delightful and creative story about deviled eggs that would make anyone want to either make them, or eat them. However, I can't imagine having to taste 20 different eggs. Great story with lots of description and realistic dialogue. Thanks for posting.
