need to comfort themselves
because they can't always
rely on other people. When I
was a child living on
Long Island, we had screen
windows in the summer. All
our bedrooms had one. At
night in bed when the moon
was a comforting presence,
I listened to the crickets and
slept with a soft breeze
coming through. My very
best wishes for the contest

When children find an activity that brings them calm, it is called self-soothing. We could all learn some of their tactics. As writers we have the imagination to place us where we would like to be. Your poem invites this kind of reflection.
