Yeah, all you needed was a pair of big thick glasses to finish the part. I was the one with the thick glasses. What a wonderfully written story.

Good luck in the contest!
Have a great day, and God bless.

Of course names are important as they establish who is important in the family and who is not. Crouching tiger, Hidden dragon explains this dynamic quite succinctly.

It is always about the ranking of the person who picked and named a child new into the family. The hierarchy is meaningful.

Thank you for sharing. :)

I like your story! And you know that one of our writers is named Kimberly (Father Flaps) and he certainly went through all those ordeals that you mentioned!
Suggestions:
None the less (Nonetheless)
like Johny Cashes son SUE, (Johnny Cash's "A Boy Named Sue")

I know two men named Kim with an i. I don't know if it bothers them. They've never said. I have a difficult name and have been called every variation under the sun. I answer anything that sounds remotely right.

I am glad you are happy with your name. You have educated me here. I was unaware "Kym" spelled with a "Y" was the male version of Kim. Excellent little ditty that is interesting and informative.

LOL, well written, Kym. I can see parents trying to explain it, and a kid trying to understand it. I did like the Johnny Cash reference. I assume if you had a son, he was not named Kym Jr. Excellent work. Terry.

Thank you, Terry, for your wonderful comments, no, no boys for me, though if I did I would play with the idea of calling him Myk (mick) as always very much appreciated****kahpot

Hello, kym with a 'y'

I think names could shape a person's character. My son was name after his dad, John. His dad was irresponsible and so he felt that way in his forming years.

My daughter's have Spanish names.... Micaela and Angelica. They have strong personalities... like me... MaryVal.

Great flash fiction for the club.

lol That's funny because it's so exaggerated, "walk the line." It's funny how we view our identities, early in life, and move with who we are, through experiences.

Only we know those little, underlying dramas, those crosses we each must bare. I had a similar situation because I was the youngest child and youngest girl. My parents had two of each, girl, boy, boy, girl, so the four grandparents' names fit well. I was second of identical twins, at the end, so I, a girl, was named after my dad.

The way I "handled" it was to steer a certain nickname by reacting to it. My dad was Alex, so I quietly rejected that. I only reacted to a name my mom, mercifully, started, "Alexan." Yep. If ya wanted to address, me, you would st, "Alexan." Extended family caught on as well. Once, an old cousin had a child he named after me, and they call her "Alexan," too. Another cousin had a child had a daughter named Alexandra and they called her Alexan, too. Alexan was securely 'a thing.' It became endearing. When a friend would say Alex, I would cringe thinking, "surely they did not get the memo." lol

Then, in 2019, my dad passed, I'm his 100th year and, for some reason, after he passed, I don't mind if strangers call me Alex. I view it as an honor now, it's like lifting my dads Spirit. It's different now.

So, maybe it's not a name that needs to change, it's our own confidence in ourselves.

I hope this helps, Sir. ;) lol

Have a good day!

Thank you, Alex, I like the idea of being named after family, with three boys my parents did not do that, is it cool being a twin, I think that would have a few up and downs, and yes, it is the person who must adapt, glad to read you have accepted your dads name, as always very much appreciated****kahpot

I like your story for your club challenge- what's in a name- excellent picture presentation of a man who might be Johnny Cashes boy named Sue - lol funny song - iconic- your writing shows good examples- Crouching Tiger- running fast- names that parents don't take into account sometimes to be sure- I think your parents did a fine job - Kym is an excellent name! On a lighter note - lol it could have been much worse ?Walt Disney movie - Peter Pan and Tinkerbell?? very clever write - good job AP

I like your artwork and story, kahpot. I thought you were going to explain how you came up with your moniker. Maybe that's for the next prompt:) A very good opening paragraph introducing yourself and your brothers.

It was nice that your parents took the time to make sure you understood the significance of your name. I like your comment about trying to explain it to friends at such a young age. I like your concluding section, as well. Thanks for sharing it and the notes, too.
