I read this a little out of order but appreciate all the details here. I get the impression that you saved Mrs. D's life by calling for the ambulance / medical help. Since I read the following chapters, I am not sure if you ever found out what happened to her later, but it sounds like you definitely needed to get away from there like you did.
One fix:
I had a windbreaker in the bag which I put on overtop of my sweater but, it couldn't do much against the rain.
I think try:

I'm sure some of those thoughts flash back from time to time, no matter how much you wish they would just go away and never come again. But I've learned that even those bad feelings have a purpose, to remind us what we have to do to protect ourselves. Thanks for sharing.

You're absolutely right Ric. I am sorry I was unable to get back to you sooner I've had a bad accident and have 3rd degree burns and was not able to do so until now thank you so much for your review I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and that your new year is great I hope your day is good too thanks again!

I once felt this alone in my life and it is a very scary feeling, thankfully it was a very long time ago. This is such a sad read, Lea, as you recount that, once again, you're on the move in the rain with just your bag as living proof of your existence. No wonder people in this position have identity issues and need to keep reminding themselves of who they are. I kept thinking at least you've got proof on your arm of Mr D's abusive behaviour. But I'm wondering if you'll be going back there. Possibly not. This is a much more cohesive account from the last one I read. That break did you some good and such a lovely event in January. I remember my own experience when my dog was pregnant and how much we bonded (I was very depressed at the time) Take care Lea and Merry Christmas! Debbie

This is very telling and strongly descriptive: "I gently peeled back the sleeve of my shirt. A black bruise that circumferenced my arm in the perfect shape of a hand." This is excellent. This is another tense scene, Lea. I was glad to see you try and stand up to Mr D, who really is an awful human being and I could really sense your frustration at the end of the piece. An excellent chapter.
