Hi Navada,
This is a good poetic rant about how Valentine's cards are more about making money than about love. It can make the lonely feel worse. Love will make its own choices. It doesn't need an arrow from a junenile God to help us.
Congrats on placing second in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a great rest of the day and week.

I liked reading this poem. It has a more cynical tone but is so well-written.
Favorite lines:
Cupid's insipid little dart
magically curing his solitary, sheeplike, unsated desire.
I might add a comma after syrupy in the second to last line.
Congratulations on your 2nd place win tie!

Oh My!!! I guess it's true that cupid really isn't necessary when it comes to true love, and yes, we should show our loved ones every day that we love them. I enjoyed reading and wish you luck with the contest.

This is a funny poem. Ban Cupid. Lets evoke his flying license an take away his bow and arrows. He shoots at random and doesn't pay attention to what he's hitting. He is pretty old. His eyesight may be failing. I enjoyed your valentine poem.

I loved this clever poem about that silly Cupid. It sounded to me like a rap with abab rhyme pattern and with no particular attention to a consistent meter. It was clever.
I never gave much thought to Cupid, but he is rather ridiculous if you think about him. Your humorous poem and note certainly makes you sound like a Valentine's day Grinch/Scrooge, Navada! - Jim

Thanks so much for your insightful review, Jim! I'm a bit of a Grinch, but I don't hate him as much as my narrator. :)

Hello Navada,
I don't fall for the whole Valentines Day push by the retail industry. Its not that I'm not a romantic, but ideally, every day should be Valentines Day. I hate to think of the money spent on candy and flowers and dinners out. It makes me wish I was still in retail. I think it's great to celebrate love at least one day of the year, but how many people have their hopes dashed because of expectations not being met? On the flip side, I bet there is a whole lot of love making going on then. Frankly, I don't need a special day for that.
Have a blessed day gal.

I get it, you are not a Valentine's day fan. It certainly has gotten way over the top in recent years. I loved the humour in this, whether it was meant to be or not, it made me smile and nod in agreeance. Good luck in the contest.
Cheers

Thanks so much! I probably don't hate it quite as much as my narrator, but I do think it's way over-commercialised. :)

Is there a Valentine's Day equivalent of "Bah Humbug?" Because, Woman, you would be the spokesmodel! What IS all this ranting here about THE best day of the entire freaking year???!! I am appalled at you. Here's the reasons it's my personal favorite:
1.) There's red everywhere (my favorite color)
2.) And pink (my next favorite color)
3.) Love (it doesn't have to be romantic, only, you know! You can love the kids in your life, the co-workers who make you laugh, your yoga instructor. Hell, love YOURSELF!!!)
4.) Candy (that one alone, Navada; come ONNNNN!!!)
5.) Potential jewelry
It is now my mission to change your view of Valentine's Day. From today until February 14th, you are on my I'm Looking At YOU list (picture me doing that V-point with my index and pointer fingers from my eyes to yours.) You are too sweet and delightful not to love this holiday!! I am not having it!!

HA! This is some thoroughly enjoyable feedback! Okay, true confession - I don't hate it as much as my narrator here does. :)
-
Well, that is a serious relief!! I was about to visit you and do an intervention!
-
Ha! I didn't mind it so much when I had a partner. Now I'm more ambivalent. Circumstances dictate perspective, I think. :)
-
I can understand that. I see your point. xo

I only write one valentine poem every year, to my wife of course, because she's the only one worthy of them, as far as I'm concerned but there are many romantic writers can churn them out seemingly at will, I'm a romantic at heart, but not In that way, great post, you are in agreement, sort of. Beautifully written, blessings Roy

Love it! And I agree. A bit of "Bah! Humbug!" with certain businesses delighting in the prospect of raking in money by the barrow-load as they raise the prices for everything flowery and sentimental to maximise their profits. Very humorously written, alongside the truths it contains.
Best wishes for the contest.

Thanks so much, Wendy! Yes, I sense a bit of commercial exploitation here. :)
