This is another stunning poem. I like the rhyme scheme which has an easy and natural flow. It is descriptive, presenting clear images. The accompanying photo is an excellent illustration for the feelings expressed. Excellent! Thank you!

This is a poignant poem and very beautiful. The imagery is wonderful.
It's so sad the she clings to the cold of winter so she doesn't have to face the reality of her loss of spring full of love. She pretends he waits for her in May.
Beautiful job.

This poem, Winter Keeps, seems to give voice to the resilient flower which waits painfully and faithfully for (her) admirer to at last come back and make (his) pick.

Although your fine verse starts with great poignancy and a sense of being lost, it seems to evolve into an assertion of self affirmation, that the winter isn't in fact a cruel nemesis but instead guards in its wisdom the memories that are so dearly waiting to be reborn in spring. I hope I haven't gone too far astray. But another beautiful verse, Jess. Take care Debbie

Winter seems to hang on sometimes, doesn't it? Especially up north. It loves to come back for one more haunting ... or more. Beautiful work and lovely in presentation and theme. Sending you my best today as always.

I am not entirely sure why I like this poem so much, but I think it has a lyrical voice in spite of a sad subject that hints at someone who may have died too young for comfort, whatever age it might have been. I think the image is strong of winter possessing kind of an unseen fortress, and the way that the cold weather alternately seems to demand time spent on knees (in prayer, perhaps, or just begging for release) or providing a stable condition between the loss of someone and the next arrival of a spring without that person, as if they are waiting just beyond a month or two. Nice share.

Your writing is utterly amazing. This piece, so perfectly rhymed, was a delight to read, lines that had me reading them more than once. So lyrical... For example, "springs I have left behind" and "watch the ground until the lilies grow" Beautiful!

I like this book of silent voices that you've headed in your book of poems, it conjures all sorts of thoughts, which I suppose could be construed as being silent voices, I was complaining to God that my musing wasn't quite working after a brief sickness, then kapow, inspired crowding, well done, blessings, great write, blessings Roy

Personification is my favorite theme in poetry, especially when it is good and you certainly did not fall short here.
Plus your words may very well Stab winter in the heart and send him away...for a season. It snowed today so I am bitter against the season.
Good work.

That is reminiscent of some of the poems I have read by Jean Ingelow. She was a Victorian but seemed to me to be before her time. This is full of sadness which seems to switch to a tiny glint of hope in the final stanza
