Thank you for introducing us to the Visser Sonnet. I liked the fact that it did not necessarily rhyme at the end of a sentence, and I enjoyed reading it, as it read as someone throwing out thoughts in the hopes that Spring had returned and would bring the beauty that comes from the Winter's freezes.

Take care,

xo

This Visser sonnet, Spring Thaw, has the proper formatting and sounds as good as signs of spring would feel as they appear and touch the readers or observers' hearts and souls. Nice.

I enjoyed reading your poem. Spring is my favorite time of.the year. Your poetry is descriptive and written well. Good luck in the contest. The picture is a nice choice for the poem.

Thanks for including an explanation of the Visser sonnet. Sounds complicated but with this form you give us a glimpse of spring determined to burst forth and stay, in spite of the slowly melting snow. Beautiful descriptions.

An excellent entry for the No Restrictions Poetry writing prompt. I had not heard of a Visser sonnet prior to this but it seems to meet the criteria and in a very nice way. I love to learn about new poem formats. Good luck in the contest.

Very beautifully composed. How important, and how refreshing it is to be a close observer of nature and its changing seasons. Best wishes for your entry.

I enjoyed your attempt at this form, but a Visser sonnet has internal rhyming on the sixth syllable and you have rhymed your sonnet on the last syllable. Your notes are correct, but you have not followed the rules.

This is the rhyming scheme you should follow for this sonnet:

Rhyming on the Sixth syllable:
x x x x x a x x x x
x x x x x b x x x x
x x x x x b x x x x
x x x x x a x x x x
x x x x x a x x x x
x x x x x b x x x x
x x x x x b x x x x
x x x x x a x x x x

x x x x x c x x x x
x x x x x d x x x x
x x x x x e x x x x
x x x x x c x x x x
x x x x x d x x x x
x x x x x e x x x x

I did, however enjoy your poem, as you present spring in a unique way.

Love Dolly x x x

Hi, Dolly. I am glad you like my poem though it may not be a TRUE Visser according to the rules you cite. My source never mentioned a specific rhyme scheme for internal rhymes. Thank you for the info.

Thank you for sharing this Visser sonnet form! I like it! I know some people balk at end rhymes because they consider all rhyming poetry doggerel. So you could win some people over this way with a more naturally flowing rhyme scattered in between. And you still make great use of alliteration and personification (love those impatient daffodils). My favorite line was "Or sprout from crevices in fissured wood?"

I am very pleased you enjoyed this rarely-employed sonnet form, lyenochka. As you well know, I write that "doggerel" mostly, so I hope to win new fans with this one. Thank you also for specifying your favorite line.

This is a lovely poem of spring hope in that nature will always find ways of surviving.

'Although still hampered by slow-melting snow,
Impatient daffodils rise everywhere.
Green shoots peep up and wriggle toward the sun'

I loved these lines. Well written Thank you.
