Congratulations on your book publishing! You are right, I fear, on whom to trust for edits. My niece published a book and the publisher left in a lot of errors. Her next, she asked my wife to edit.
You are right. $19.99 for a paperback is pretty steep.

I believe it could be cheaper, but they won't budge on the cost. I guess they need to make their money. I almost got one editor fired because he changed things in my novel that were correct. I refused to okay it and made them return the manuscript back to the way it was, this was from my publisher. He then used a different one. Things got corrected.

Hello Barbara,
congratulations on getting this published. I was able to get the PDF's for my three books, and I'm checking on Amazon to see if they can just print them as they are, with the same covers and all. I see that you're making about $5.00 a book. That's about right for me too. If you were to be able to get a big publishing house to publish for you, you'd only get about $1.50 a book. There's a chance you could sell more initially, but I'd rather self publish and make the money myself. So far Amazon has been a pain in the ass to deal with. I may try another printer if they don't respond soon, as I'm out of two of my books and the market is good right now in the tourist town. Well done gal.

I actually sell more at my meet the authors than I do on amazon. I sell them for only $10.00 each. That still gives me about $5.00 profit. Thank you for the support.

I found my publisher by myself. At a meet the author, I copied down a poet publishing company, finishinglinepress.com. Some of the poets there used them and seemed happy. I hope this helps.

My publishing company is BookWritingCube. The gentleman I deal directly with is Kevin Sanders. He's explained that because of the printing cost, Amazon's cost, his cost, that I am only making under $5.00 a book. Printing costs is anywhere from $4.25 - $4.90 a book. When I do the meet the authors, I can purchase the book for the printing costs, and I sell them for $10.00. I make about the same amount of money and help my fans. I see that as a win/win.
