Hidden passion and forbidden love are always sad and the trouble is the passion that is hidden remains deep below the surface of the compassionate heart. The nun and monk show compassion to others but not to themselves as they pine away for the love of their lives.
Thanks for sharing this sad and lonely poem.

I'm wondering why passion must be hidden in dreams. Hmm, that's one to think about. The presentation is an extra special type of pretty. The poem caused this reader to think. Great job.

That is sad, Gypsy. I wonder who made that rule up that monks can't have a normal sex life done with love? I also wonder, have any broken those rules? This is another fabulous Japanese poem, a Tanka this time. Your artwork is always fabulous, my friend, I wish I could present my work as well as you do. Well done, it was another treat. :))Sandra xx

I think some monks may break the law of celibacy. The thing is to stay focus on their religion.. they say sex can be distractive. It's sad to me but the monks I know seem very happy. They do have companionship among them. I wouldn't want to be a monk when I was younger but now I wouldn't mind. I would treasure intimate friendship more. But it must be hard.
Thank you very much for your excellent review and kind words.

I am always in awe of the beautiful way in which you present your poems. You are also so knowledgeable about all the types of Japanese poetry and you notes are so helpful.

Love that is forbidden seems sweet and passionate, it requires much self control and mutual respect to keep boundaries. Nicely expressed and presented tanka.

I think all of us have had a secret love, that is among the forbidden fruit and despite the temptation, we can muck up the lives of those that depend on the image we project, beautifully written Tanka Gypsy, blessings Roy

Most evocative piece.
But good luck trying to control your dreams. They notoriously avoid being controlled!
Outstanding presentaion. Do you ever put your work together in published form? I'm sure there would be a market.

This tanka is beautifully presented and captures the poignancy of forbidden love in its succinct and stirring form. Well done, Gypsy. Take care Debbie

I don't know much about the life of Buddhist monks and nuns. I remember visiting a Buddhist temple in Korea and the nuns have their heads shaved. I was surprised to see their faces and I knew immediately that they were women, those soft, feminine features are still obvious. I think you captured the feeling of longing well. I don't think many people are naturally called to celibacy.

I think it would be hard to be celibate... but probably avoid some suffering. I took meditations classes from a Buddhist nun when I lived in Sacramento. She was very nice. Several of us were Christians. I miss that. I miss a lot of things from my life in Sacramento but I was very lonely. I'm glad I moved in with micaela and taking care of Atticus is very precious.
Thank you very much, big sister.

I'm so glad you live with Micaela and Nick and Atticus! You are a blessing there and Atticus will always have wonderful memories about his talented grandmother!
