Ciao!
There is no way to avoid old age. It's not a nice process but realising that one has wasted their youth on having a good time, doing drugs, drinking, gambling, philandering etc makes it all the harder to accept.
Those who squandered their lives have nothing to show at the end
of the journey and that's a bitter pill to have to swallow.
I think of all those people that are part of Tinseltown. Most of them spend a good part of their lives partying.
And when they have lost their youthful looks most will lie to themselves, and pretend that they are happy.
Have you seen Madonna off lately.. her face is a disaster, it's obvious, she is trying to stop the aging process.
She is pathetic with that new young lover who is just using her.
Everything she does is to gain attention, still now. When she was on the crest of her fame, I got it but she is 66 now.
When will she stop trying to shock people. ( now she shocks people but in a negative way..all those vulgar poses she posts ).
She is not happy because she doesn't do anything meaningful in her life.
She is empty

I feel sorry for Madonna. She has contributed more to pop music than Taylor has, not through her writing skills really (neither one writes well) but as an entertainer. She's got nothing on the talent of say Ariana or Rachel Scott or Tina Turner, Janis Joplin or Celine Dion. I might even respect Britney more. The producer part of me has to acknowledge, if she is the successful face of a genuinely good song, isn't that worth something?
I understand that Madonna represents an image of excess for her generation. I don't know much of her music as I didn't grow up with it. Fame makes some people and destroys others. Often both. At this point, she's well past her prime and it's hard to blame someone for trying to stay relevant. Sounds like maybe she could be making better choices for herself though.

Hi
This is a well written and illustrated poem. It reminds us about regrets we don't want to have in our lives. It seems it was inspired by the artwork,
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Merry Christmas

Thanks Joan, I actually wrote this one before the artwork. It took a long time to figure out what image prompt I wanted. Doing the image before the writing is pretty rare for me, but it has been known to happen! Merry Christmas to you as well.

My pleasure. You were lucky to find such a perfect picture for your poem.

I just used Dezgo, and told it to show an old man in the mirror looking at a younger version of himself. It's an uncensored AI image engine that has improved by leaps and bounds over the last 6-9 months.

That's a good way to illustrate poems and stories. I may start using it.
