You step was a true monster, how can people live like that? They should have realised there was something terribly wrong with them, although I've known some religious nuts, thst deserved whatever they get on judgement day, fortunately it's not my decision, merry Christmas Douglas, blessings Roy

Once again, no child should ever have to live like that. I know other who were raised in a similar situation and live in that situation today. Sharing this story will help them.
My brother Ken and I had an electronic football game that you could play (brother,)
Indiana is basketball land, and all children that I knew played. (home of famous coach Bobby Knight)
(My brother and I played . I never won.)

This is another very well written story that shows how evil that man was. I would have terrified of him too. At least you knew the truth of how you won. I am glad you are no longer in that type of situation. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year my friend. Blessings, Teri

This is a cumulative rating for all the times I haven't been able to give you more for a story that virtually breaks my heart. Your emotions are palpable even now, a testament to your skilful, impassioned write. And those memories, particularly the graphic "O" of his mouth with his tongue slightly protruding, seem imprinted in your memory forever. Perhaps for a purpose because, over time, it has taught you the wisdom of being able to articulate yours and others' feelings in your writing with such force and authenticity. Well done, Doug! Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year! Warm wishes Debbie

As you know, I love recalling my childhood, and I wonder how I missed writing about twenty-one. It would have been my initiation into b-ball.
Thanks for the memory.

There aren't any words (or at least publishable ones) to tell you how horrible a man Dean Paul was and how sorry I am that you had to live with the despicable tyrant. I can't imagine what could have made a boy grow into a man like him and I probably don't want to know. My heart always goes out to you Doug. You survived and by the Grace of God are a wonderful person to know and call my friend.
Hugs, Carol

Very well written.
It's a thousand wonders that more father figures don't wake up with knives sticking out of their eye sockets and throats.
It's my belief that these type adults should be tagged and never allowed on a police force.
I'm glad you survived.
Best wishes.

What an evil person he was. Terrifying children and teens and yet he was so childish himself. There are some people who just cannot accept a loss at anything, and it is terrifying what they will do in order to win. Well written.

Douglas,
This is a great story and I'm sorry Dean Paul was such a bully. It is no fun growing up with domestic abuse. He should have been taken out of the picture by your mother. I'm sure he was mean to her also.
Well done
