I'm worried Dana is overstepping her boundaries. I understand why she's doing these things, but I'm not sure Fran will. That's just me. I hope I'm wrong and it turns out to be a great Christmas present-the secret recording.
Don't get me started on the Covid vaccines. I feel like this was just a get-rich scheme. I never took the vaccine, and the ones in my family, except for my Mother, thank god, got it anyway. My niece, who just turned thirty, has heart issues from it.
I got off track, sorry. This is another incredible Chapter, Jim.
God bless,
Steve

A good chapter, and the plans are moving forward with more parts agreeing to do things help, for friendship and costs.
I do wonder about the constant use of the term: Big Pharma. Outside of activists and the media, do you ever hear normal people say that?

Thanks, Lance. You make a good point about the use of the term Big Pharma. I think you're right that it's mainly the media and activists (and perhaps people who work in the industry) who are familiar with and most often use that term. I've gone back and changed what Barry Degner said.

Jim,
This is a great addition to your story. I think Dana is doing the write thing and asking for forgiveness instead of permission. I like your spin on the COVID vaccine. I refused to get it. The people who I know that did got COVID, go figure.
Great job my friend.

Thanks so much, Cecilia. I also know a lot of people who got all the boosters and still got Covid several times. I think the jury is still out on its effectiveness.

You're welcome. It wasn't out long enough to know if it would work. It was knee jerk reaction.

I have a sinking feeling that Dana may have overstepped and Fran is not going to be too happy about it.
I had the review box open and left the table where I'm working for a few minutes; when I came back, my cat had "reviewed" your work already. It looked something like this: dx9ck,el,djek;
I didn't notice a rating, but I'm sure it was exceptional:-)
See you later in the week.

That's funny, Pam. My cat also has a tendency to walk on my keyboard, and there's no telling what will happen when he does. Often the screen gets so messed up, I have to spend the next 10 minutes getting it back to looking normal again!
Yes, I'm predicting Fran won't be thrilled with Dana's approach, but what she will do with the information obtained is the big question.

I'm not sure what Fran will think about this scheme of Dana's, it could ending up biting her even with her boss's enthusiasm. A good scene, Jim, enjoyed it.

Thanks, Valda. Yes, there is definitely the potential for things going wrong or even being charged herself with a crime, but perhaps she figures her company wouldn't press charges in order to minimize the damage and would prefer to sweep the whole thing under the rug.

My relatives got their vaccinations, and kept going out, and got covid. I stayed in, did not get any shots and did not get covid. I quit pain RX years ago and while I have pain 24/7, it will not kill me, and I use a lot of disractions, and sometimes must simply stop all work lay on my back heating pad, pull the electric blanket over me, but on a new movie or show to occupy my brain and endure. Good story. Karen

Yeah, I think the jury is still out on the effectiveness of the Covid vaccines. The science is about as settled as the global warming controversy with its proponents and skeptics.
Comment from Debbie D'Arcy
Dana seems to be getting in there way over her head and using her personal grievance against her company to dictate her actions. This isn't going to go down well. Plus, she's putting Brian at risk without even getting authority from the rest of the team. I'm fascinated about that inserted reference to the Covid jab. I'm not well researched on the matter but not at all happy about the frequency of the vaccination (I stopped at the third). I really don't trust what's going on and don't believe the immune system should be constantly bombarded like this.
Another excellent chapter. Sometimes the dialogue can sound a bit stiff and could be helped with more elision:
"..he('s) a big, tough-looking guy"
"He(s) an amusing guy..."
Also - "but he actually (worked) in collections" as opposed to "did work.." ('did, 'does' etc often sounds clumsy before a verb).
But heating up a treat, Jim! Well done! Debbie

I guess she thought she would be reducing the risk to Brian in the long run by getting a wiretap on Merra's phone to catch anything more serious. We'll see if there's anything to her plan and how Fran will take it soon.
Thanks for your great review, Debbie, and for your style suggestions. I find I often have to go back and use contractions where I didn't in the original writing. I missed a few here. Thanks for pointing them out.
Comment from Carol Hillebrenner
I'm not sure Fran will be impressed. The plan seems very close to coercion of her boss, and that is not what Fran is looking for. Dana can't stand the guy, which makes her look guilty of something.

Yes, it's close to entrapment, but we'll get a better look at that in the next chapter. Plus it was probably illegal depending on state law. We'll see how Fran deals with it and the ethical dilemma it puts her in.
Comment from Wendy G
I am becoming a bit concerned about Dana - she seems to be going way beyond what she should be doing, and I 'm not sure it is the right way to go about things. Does the end justify the means? How will the others feel about this? As for the covid vaccines, I do think they have saved many lives, and I'm in the vulnerable group, so I appreciate them, plus what our (Aussie) government did to help - not perfect but they were pretty much flying blind, and there was a lot of misinformation around, both deliberate and otherwise. Your story remains interesting and compelling, and it is always well-written and a pleasure to read.

Thanks so much, Wendy for your well thought out review.
Great analysis of Dana's actions. Yes, highly questionable, and probably not going to be well received by Fran, but do the ends justify the means? I'll let the reader decide. Evidently Dana thinks it does.
Regarding the Covid vaccine, the science is about as settled as the climate change controversy, with proponents and skeptics on each side of the debate. It's hard to know who to believe and trust, so everyone has to decide for themselves whether or not to be vaccinated or keep getting boosters. Personally, I haven't studied it enough to know which side I come down on.

Hi Jim,
Hmm, I don't think it was wisdom to proceed without guidance from the FBI. This gal is just an informant, but it seems she's stepping beyond what her role should be. It might cause some unexpected problems, I guess we'll see.
Blessings,
Tom

You're right. It was ill-advised and risky on Dana's part, but she is a risk taker and is enjoying the thrill of her new role. I think you'll find Fran is far less enthusiastic about this and would never have condoned it. But, what will she do now that she has it?
