Whippoorwills do enjoy crooning at night. Trilling by a rilling brook would be thrilling to hear! Love the play on words here. Nice entry for the contest.

Wow, this poem has a great use of rhyme and also of alliteration. It is nicely constructed, and contains such a musical sound to the words. Nice picture. Best wishes in the contest. Blessings. Carol

Wow! This just sings and rolls along in two line poetry. A masterful offering with internal and external rhymes per the requirements. Beautiful offering in super short verse poetry.

Sending you my best today as always, and my very best for the contest.

I can remember from the days of my youth when we would often hear the Whippoorwill singing in the early morning light and I always enjoyed the sound. May you have a wonderful day? I enjoyed your two line poem very much and it is very well written.

You've written a perfectly manicured and wonderful entry in this two line poetry contest Melissa, this iconic verse is probably best suited to your neck of the woods, I don't think we have them here, a beautifully written poem, good luck, blessings Roy

This is what I like about poetry contest and the moment I see a beautiful picture of a bird and the powerful words written. Best of luck in the two line poem contest entry.

Melissa,

Nicely done with rhymes and alliteration. Your selected illustration portrays the bird at night. The bird song comes in many varieties. Where is the crooner Perry Como in our memory banks? My Mom's was, of course, Frank Sinatra!

LOL

Haha, I love the old crooners and Bing Crosby is my fave! To me, his voice was the smoothest... Michael Buble is a close second!! Thanks so much, Mark!!

Not a brdy person here, Melissa.
So I have no idea what the devil a whipporwill is, and you had me on rills until I read your authors notes.
Even so, the poem has a nice rhythm to it, I can almost hear the birds call in its simple two line composition.

You really MUST do a google search and listen to a whippoorwill. I know you will like it :). Thank you, Tim.
