Man, oh, man! I read with thirst each line. Terrifically composed and captivating. I cannot even imagine.
Dollface, your Dad may have been a butthead, but he was an angel - through and though.
Much love,

Oh no! This poem I wrote as a letter from my hubby to our daughter!! He was in the Navy for 22 years and missed a lot of her life and I felt this would be what he'd say to her if he could (he read it and related with it). I didn't think for a minute it would be thought it was from my own Dad to me! But you're right, my Glen is an angel, through and through, even if he was largely an absent Dad.
As for my own Dad? Well, sadly, his last words to me were that I needed psychiatric help, so I honestly don't feel there's much that's angelic about him, especially these days...and he'd think the same of me...
So sorry you got the wrong idea about this poem, but just the same, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for reviewing it too - it always does the old ticker good when someone reviews something that's old and pays so little... Bless you Sara xoxoxoxo

So so beautiful. What a wonderful love between Dad and daughter. This touched me because my brother has to be away from his children a lot because of his job and it breaks his heart. Such a wonderful poem.

And thank you for reading some of myh other stuff! I appreciate your comments, generous rating, but mostly that you relate so well to the message here. I'm sure your brother makes up for his absences when he returns, but he can never get back those moments lost. All he can do is his best. And it's lovely he has such a supportive sibling. thank you again xoxoxo

We just are not allowed enough sixers, this is one definately, but I an only give it in writing. Such a great poem to your daughter, I hope she has a copy so that she can read it any time she has any doubts about her fathers love. It is there in every sylable for her and all the world to see. it is true, many men do not want to talk about there experiences in the war as they are just memories they want to lose. I'm sure she knows, if she has read this she must understand. Excellents work Kay

She has read this and says it brought a tear to her eye. I just wanted her to see things from her Dad's perspective, as he's not always good at rleating things verbally. He's a well-meaning, very devoted father and I just wanted things to be of fair balance. I thank you for your comments, and really, 6-ers are what they are - it's the comments and sentiments expressed that are important. Thank you so very much Kay for a lovely review. xoxoxo

I grew up in the Navy, and was often left in exotic places while my father was out to see for months at a time. I don't think it was easy for anyone. I thought this was a terrific post.

Thanks Michelle! It could be a bugger of a life for all concerned. We were lucky in that we were based in Sydney where the fleet was so didn't move around all that much, tho' Brooke was born in another state. I had many friends who'd moved around quite a bit and some of their kids handled it ok, while others just didn't. A challenging lifestyle to say the least! I appreciate your comments and rating very much. Am glad you liked this one! xoxoxo

I really sympathized with your plight. I was in both the Army and Navy Reserves. I missed the weekends away from the family, but I knew I would have at least three others every month. I hope you aren't suffering fromPTS. If so, please get some help. Thanks for a truly hearbreaking read. Best wishes. Ray

Thanks Ray! No, not suffering PTS as far as I know! Lucky we've been together so many years that we've learned to deal with things constructively - and there's been quite a few! I appreciate your comments very much, and can understand that even weekends can seem like an eternity. I am glad that this reached out to you - it's always great to get an excellent review from someone who relates well to what's been written. Bless you Ray, and I am grateful for your concern as well! xoxoxo

Thanks so much Vicky! This ended up being a tad longer than I intended, but sometimes length can't be helped. I appreciate that you took the time to read it, and your comments and encouragement are appreciated as well. xoxoxo

Thank you for this loving, moving, special poem. I grew up the daughter of a U.S. Marine who spent four tours in Viet Nam fighting hand to hand combat in the jungles, so I know what it is like to live that life. I never thought it was harder on us than him. My Lord, how horrible life fighting a war must have been for him, and for every soldier that ever had to and is still is.
I wish I had a six, Chris.
Love,
Penny

Bless your cotton socks Penny. Sixers are all fine, but it's the sentiment and supportive comments that truly matter. And you've given me that in spades. Your early life must have been nerve-wracking I think. Vietnam is a war situation that affects people still today, with nary a reward given to those who fought it. They are the unsung heroes I believe. And so are their families for supporting them and living it in their own way. Love ya Pea!! xoxoxo

HI alpaca. This is such a moving piece of well written poetry in which you describe a father's feelings after leaving his child behind to follow his career. Well done

Thanks Wendy. I showed it to the lady in question today and it brought a tear to her eye. I don't know if she spoke to her Dad yet, but my purpose here was for her to hear things from him that he found hard to say. I appreciate your comments and for taking the time to read this rather lengthy effort of mine! xoxoxo

I don't have any kids but I understand the sympathy and
sorrow with which you wrote, completely. I still think I'm
a kid and probably will never grow up. Your story
kept me intrigued and your poem is very well-written.
I enjoyed it. Hopefully, we can all keep each other
"safe from harm"
Nice work. Yours, Fish

Thanks Fish! Whether a person has children or not is irrelevant I think. We were all kids once ourselves and probably a fair portion of us had Dads who went away with their jobs and know what effect this had on us I'm glad you enjoyed this poem, and I very much appreciate your comments and support. And yes, we'll alwyas try and keep each other safe from harm...xoxoxo
