Very nice. Thanks for sharing. It is quite interesting to see how many people refuse to recognize that Christ is the reason for Christmas! I'm always amazed that this happens. Good luck with the contest. Jordan

You've summed up your feelings about Christmas very well. I can "feel" your passion for Jesus and how special Christmas is to you because of this. I could also feel your joy. :)
Some suggestions/spag that I noted:
Christmas tree, even though I was brought up to believe in Santa Claus; later found it was about Jesus. (A little awkward with the punctuation as it is. Try: To me, the spirit of Christmas is so much more than gifts under a Christmas tree. Even though I was brought up to believe in Santa Clause, I later found out it was about Jesus.)
Bethlehem; when (use a comma instead of a semicolon)
virgin there would (use comma after "virgin")
Even our churches celebrate the birth of Jesus (Drop "even" because otherwise it sounds as though it is amazing and improbable that churches would celebrate Christmas.)
Relatively minor nits, and I'm giving 5 stars because they are such minor issues. Your joy grabs me from the computer screen. Blessings back to you, Teri. I hope you have a Merry Christmas as well! Good luck in the contest. LK

I love Christmas Eve church services. It is a big part of our family tradition that all kids, grandkids and whomever else happens to be around on that day all attend church as a group. It's sort of like that icing on the Christmas cake when we remember why the cake was baked! Good job. ann

You certainly have brought a very powerful message about the true spirit of christmas. Without Jesus there would be nothing at all.
Thanks for your lovely reminder and well done.
Good luck

This is a nice write about why there is a Christmas at all. So often now, baby Jesus is being stuffed somewhere in the attic like a bunch of excess Christmas ornaments as the world takes on the new frenzy of what Christmas means. The word itself, "Christmas" is being replaced. Carols are under seige too. There are many who wish to wipe out all references to religion - and in many places, they are succeeding. Keep on writing, Teri. Rose.

A very good emphasis on the spiritual nature of Christmas. Excellent Scriptural references to the Gospels. Great juxtaposition of picture and poem; I love Helvi2's artwork.

"The reason for the season" I like that for without Jesus Christ the Only Begotten Son Of God, we would have no Christmas to celebrate with love and gift giving.
Luck on the contest.

Hi Teri,
Your piece is short and to the point, but written with lovely descriptions of your faith and feelings. You did a nice job. Merry Christmas to you too!

This is true. a good reminder to all. A lot of times we forget the real reason why we celebrate Christmas. I didn't grow up believing in Santa Claus at all. My dad didn't believe in Christmas or birthday presents. He always said he'd get what you need when you need it, no point in giving a gift just because it's a holiday.
