When one door closes another one opens. I loved reading these very human feeling words. Losing ones job can be traumatic but this person found something better then a job finding his faith, family and friends. One can lose a job and probably get another job. When one loses their family, mother, brother, sister, or friend is a loss, until they meet up in heaven again.
Wonderful and very sincere words written.

Thank you for your kind review. I've never reached the salary level or so called "prestige" of that job 7 years ago. I'm very happy though and still live with my best buddy. Life is good!

Thanks for reading. It was from the heart. I visited my old church this past Sunday and stood in front of a portrait of my old rector. She lost her fight with cancer. I miss her a lot.

Thank you for this letter; It takes a strong man to deal with such sudden adversity, and you have done it admirably and, on the way, given those of us who deal with our own difficulties, a perspective to help us find our strength. Your take on your 'life-after-being-fired' is modified by what is happening all around, and it is a wonderful lesson. Thank You.
I think your wife is amazing-- she said what she said not as a psychologist (although she might have been) but as a loving partner.

My friend you have said it all.
The message in this writing is so powerful one doesn't see grammatical errors, one sees only wisdom.
If only more people had your ability to see the full picture and not be obsessed with self.

Thanks again Bob!

A reminder that no matter how dark the cloud there will be a silver lining. The way you have the incidents framed with images of those around you lets us feel the same emotions you were going through.

Your letter to the editor is such a moving and heart-rending piece of writing. It is difficult when you lose a job - made redundant - left on the shelf - call it what you will. It is more difficult when you have spent half your life at that job. You have to change your lifestyle and adapt to new circumstances. It is not surprising that your letter was finally laminated to keep it whole. It would act as a tonic or pick-me-up to others, for it shows that however badly you think life has treated you, there are always others who have far heavier crosses to bear. Thank you for sharing this.

Hello, nice to meet you in this story, I enjoyed reading it and noticed no errors. I liked your attitude to the funeral.
I am sorry you lost your job, if that was biographical.
Thanks for sharing your writing, it is a narrative I would recommend to other readers for review, cheers, Rebekah

It was biographical. I've never gotten a job with the same level of salary, or so called "status". I get along fine though and am still married to my best friend. Life is good!

THIS is a stunning lesson in humility, faith and spirituality. I am not in the least bit surprised that your letter had to be laminated and kept on that notice board, Bhogg! Every single soul who reads this letter will have learned an essential lesson in life. Congratulations and THANK YOU so very much for sharing this with us. Pat.

I have to tell you I found this very comforting. I have recently lost my job and my wife and I have a 4 month old baby. I am lucky enough to have family willing to help as much as they can but it has been hard and I have found myself on the brink of despair more than once. Your letter has really given me somethings to think about and has given me a perspective I did not have before. Thank you.

You're welcome. I'm not in your shoes, but all I can tell you is that when that door got slammed in my face, God opened other ones!

What a wonderful way to put everything into perspective. Loosing a job is devastating and humbling. Finding your faith, rekindling that feeling of God's loving hand always there to support you, is freeing. This is a very positive and uplifting read. Thank you for writing it and for sharing it here.
I love this line, "When I told my wife, I didn't know what form of angst to expect. Instead I got love and support. After a hug and a kiss, she said, "I wonder what wonderful things God has planned for us now?" Anyone who has a spouse who responds in this fashion is blessed indeed. -Judy
