I'm still here. I was surprised to see that I had already read and reviewed previous chapter. Lots happening that keeps me reading.

Yes, the last five have been spitting out clues and red herrings left and right LOL. Thanks for hanging in there with me, my friend. Hugs, Bev

I guess I'm thick, why do they keep thinking the priest did it? Or did he do it and I'm just too taken with his kindliness to see it? But he wasn't that evil person in the chair, so he couldn't be the killer. Though the evil in the chair wasn't the killer either, was he? Wasn't he an uninvited guest?
Oh dear, I'm having to use my noggin and think, not my strong suit lately.
I need to come help the Sheriff track down the real killer. It'll save him so much time. :-)

Great chapter!

Thank you, Sue. I really appreciate this awesome review! With each future chapter, a little more of the puzzle will start to be revealed. At mid-point, I think I've put in enough red herrings LOL. Sure appreciate the support! Hugs, Bev

Oh boy the suspense and action in this one has me almost screaming. Creepy and I'm sure will get creepier....I know one thing for sure this is too much spooky to read it in the dark.
or a storm as its pounding outside....
You have me on the edge of my seat and I'm not afraid to say I may need to run to the bathroom and lock the door ....that has been my hiding spot:D Kids know that of course so it doesn't work anymore....

Excellent post and nail biting.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Writingfundimension,

Now you've moved the whole story up a notch in tension and introduced several leads, but I've a nasty feeling there's something odd about the death of the pedophile ...

Good chapter, perhaps the sheriff needs to look at the rectory a lot more closely.

You and I should co-write a story sometime, Patrick. It's like you are reading my mind! Thanks, as always ... Bev

Like, perhaps he isn't 'dead,' just in hiding ...

I like the air of mystery here, Bev.

I like how the sheriff puts the mental bent of a psychopathic killer, and the line: Maybe God's okay with that, but I'm not. That's very powerful.

I enjoy Derek's suspicious mind, and his misgivings about the Father.

Great suspenseful ending, Bev. Very well written, as usual!

Keep up the great work...always thinking of ya!

Love,
Tina

Such a creepy and intriguing chapter,
Bev, grabbing the attn. and holding
it throughout.
Just one little mention...

He turned the handles, but the doors didn't budge- here, remembering he has a gun in one hand.. I'm wondering if this needs to be rewaa bit clearer, Bev.
He tried first one handle then the other, but neither door budged and proved....

Just ignore if not in agreement, my friend.

Not sure about how the picture connects but the written presentation is very good.

The dialogue serves the story telling well.

I am impressed and intrigued to learn more.

Really like 'his words came out in chunks', a brilliant expression.

This was nicely done. A lot of information was provided in a short amount of writing. The characters were interesting. The world weary sheriff and the priest who might not be what he seems. The figure who may or may not be a ghost. The only part that gave me pause was when the priest said he didn't want things getting screwed up. I'm not saying a priest would never say anything that. It just seems that most of the priests I've known, and I'm Catholic, would choose their words a bit more carefully.

Thanks much, Ine. Father Brian is a bit different than the averge priest, as other chapters have revealed. But I will certainly take your advice to heart. Take care and thanks so much! Bev

As you say, Father Brian is a little different. I probably just need to read more chapters. Like I said, what I read was really good.

Gripping stuff. The second ghost story I've read today, but this has a completely different voice which holds the reader's interest.
Two minor quibbles. How can French doors 'flank' the fireplace, unless there's a set of doors on either side? Clarify.
When did Father Brian re-enter the room? Oleson sent him out into the hallway while he did his search.
Still a darned good read.
Thanks for the treat alert. Can't pass up a good tip.

This is such a great mystery novel, Bev. I wish I had more time to go back and refresh my memory from the last chapter or two. You are leaving so many options here for the reader to try to guess just who the murderer is; and, to me, that is the sign of a good mystery. I saw absolutely no spags here. Great job!
Hugs,
Connie
