YEAH for you! I can totally relate because I did the same thing as a birthday present to myself when I turned 50. Your story rings totally true, and I can picture everything you mention, and hear the conversation with your instructor! Well done, on the story and having the courage to go through with the jump. Even our reasons are similar; I fear small planes and heights. Best of luck in the contest! I hope I'm doing it on my 85th as well, though I'm thinking about doing sooner than that. I lost the video I had done, so I want to get another one...LOL!

Thank you so much for your very thoughtful and interesting review. Good for you that you did this when you turned 50. I'm so glad the story rings true as I've never attempted such a thing in my life and most likely never will. I wasn't sure I could pull this off and make it sound convincing even though it is a flash fiction. Thanks again.

Well congrats. cos you did a GREAT job. You should try it by going tandem. The instructor does all the work, you just jump with him harnessed to you, free fall for about 1000 ft., which is such a great natural high, then he pulls the cord and you slowly float to the ground! While reading it, I forgot about it being a fiction contest...LOL!

Wow, that's a really big step to conquer fears, and at 85! It's obviously nerve-wracking which is resolved with "Let's do it..before I change my mind". Nice story.

This is a well written little story for the 100 yard dash. It has everything a story requires. The conflict which I would certainly have in this case, Fear. And the resolution to go ahead and take the plunge. The joy of having accomplished such a feat on the 85th birthday. Nice. Good luck in the contest.
