excellent use of enjambment to enhance the flow of your thoughts from line to line and from stanza to stanza
vivid detail of setting
shape, grip, rise...many strong action verbs to breathe life into your poem
good alliteration in walking the warmed
a warm, moving portrait :-) Brooke

Beautiful, well written poem but what I like the most is the content. It's so true, we take things and people for granted specially as children.
I love your poem, a tribute to your grandfather.

Thank you Bryana. I remember my grandpa so vividly, he always wore a fedora hat and smoked a long stem pipe. The story is basically true. My grandparents lived downstairs growing up and our family upstairs.

I like this poem. It sings a song many never learn. You have done a superb job with placing me watching the old man's routine of life. Well done poet. You should send this to a calendar making company.

This was really beautiful and touching. I love the silent routine Grandfather undertook to secure the comfort of all the family. There is so much love in those actions. Beautiful.

What a lovely memory, and a nice tribute to your grandfather. My dad did the same for us, and later tried to teach me how to shake the grate and shovel just the right amount of coal to keep the fire going. Thank goodness for the thermostat on my dining room wall these days. Things are better in many ways.
