This is a meticulously well written first page. The action scenes are exciting, the details, faultless. It set my mind to wondering in how it will go.

Thanks, do you want it? I can gift my copyright if you promise to finish it and bless me with 10% royalties for the ride and free editorial services.

This was very good, avoiding letting us in on the fact that Jared was a priest. I initially thought he was a schizophrenic, having killed someone after hearing voices in his head, or seeing visions of demons. Of course, that's not to say that priests can't be psychos, too. I'm sure they can be.
Anyhow, this story -- or rather its beginning -- had sort of a Constantine feel to it, although Keneau Reeves was anything but a priest in that movie.
Well done, and I wish you the best of luck in the contest!

Seriously, how do you know that this guy wasn't schitzo and Keaneu wasn't contracted to play the role?

Hah ha, I really don't.

You definitely capture my interest in this opening scene. I am curious about Jared and his broken leg and the man he might have killed. You have set the scene vividly and the tone with the emphasis on the eternal battle between good and evil. It will be interesting to see what happens now that the police are involved.

Greetings author,
Hmm.. a well crafted first page. It has an equal balance of action and intrigue, which would definitely prompt the reader to want to turn the page. Interesting choice of antagonist. Wonder what happens next. Best to you with this contest entry. ;) Chrisfiore

Raging against life purpose and human choices is a fundamental, an unarguable protagonist.

I recognise that location from my only day spent in New York. It's ideal for this drama which is very much set up to go on as the beginning of a much longer book. You've given us a glimpse, and there's plenty of intrigue in the form of the new priest who's just killed someone to save his own sorry hide. Good luck in the contest!

I find God, as a protagonist, always a great subject with whom to argue with. Thanks.

Alas, if we could only collect royalties for good intentions without having to serve up the product.
