True! We expect animals to do things we could never do ourselves. In addition to taking them out of their natural habitat, making them do things they don't want to do, and caging them for the rest of their lives. I agree with your last line, "and I'M bananas?!"

all in a day's work - add the apostrophe for possessive
funny punning with the phrase being bananas, with the figurative meaning of the phrase and the literal bananas
