Congrats Michael on your all time best award. I like your first person point of view and your friendship on FS. So many writers entered this. I lost the entry date until I read one of the writers. I mentioned you on mine. Keep up the great stories and poems and I will try to hide under your wings and Deans. I can have more than one fan buddy? ****** great writing~ what fun!

Hi. Thanks so much. I did read your piece and was proud to see my name mentioned. How very kind of you. I haven't been home much lately with my job requirements and my phone doesn't work with Fanstory since the changes, so I'm BURIED! I will review it though eventually. I'm actually writing old school with a pen and paper. Love it. I only started writing on a computer since I joined here. Lots of great entries here, yes? Gotta run. Good luck in this. See ya soon. mikey

You have said everything I've thought about being on FS, and said it so well, and in as few words as possible. I haven't yet read most of the other entries, but so far, this one has my vote.

Thank you so much. I happened to be home for a moment and saw this review which gave me a much needed smile. The site doesn't work on my phone anymore with the changes, so I'm really behind worse than ever. But, hopefully my work will return to normal and I can get back to my real interests. You have some pieces I want to read and some great reviews that I've read but haven't answered. Thank you for those too. I will get to them eventually I hope. Take care and thanks again. mikey

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this piece. The term 'Fanstorians' was nice. I have only been on the site for a couple of months and already have met some lovely people and received great views. Your final sentiment , 'why would I ever leave?' sums it up perfectly. best wishes Fiona

Hey Mike,
well... this had one of those beginnings that intrigue-- and obviously the hook to get the reader in... why are you here on site... by third sentence you had me thinking... wow, "wonder how the readers are going to eat this up?" 'Are we spinning our wheels here... well?... well I know I'm not", I told myself.
My grammar was pretty non existent within the literary world... only thing, no college... and secondary school... well lets just say, I wasted that learning opportunity...so straight away you pull me in with a familiar tone to my own story. Then those snips of anxiousness... mine is usually just waiting to see where I could have improved and what spags are left, so I know my gauge... and as you've alluded back to... which by the way was a very strong way to take this essay home... you fluffed ego's you made true and valid claims... the underlings on site do have something that no other site that I know of has... it has heart... it breathes... and yes, selfless-talented wordsmiths that give of their time freely and with grace.
I suppose I am a self-imposed loner, who prefers the company of his wife to the outside world... that's where it's comfortable, we don't have to worry of disappointment... we're sort of anonymous, well, no, we are as anonymous as we chose to be... it's easy to attach ourselves with like-minded people as you have stated... and really, could we be so open, have these types of conversations within the 'real' world? I doubt all of us would... but here... it's a melting-pot... all here with some kind of passion to improve and expand our horizons
so, what I have to say is... thought you did a very fine job on this contest essay... and, I love why you are here... sentiments that I have heard, echoed around site... well constructed and very entertaining brother... all the very best in the contest.
With our thoughts we create,
the reasons why?
James.

Like you say -this is the real world and you told it as it is. Agreed this is really a warm place. i have experienced one reviewer taking the time a very lengthy review in order to assist me and for that I shall always be appreciative.
Good luck wishes to you in this contest

I read every word and I was blown away by your self taught expertise. I agree with 99% of what you said about FS and its members. I always learn so much from you because you are a natural born authors. Unlike the majority of us who love what we do and strive to learn from the best. As I've said regarding several of your other other contest entries.... this one will be at the top, if not the winner. I write this in honesty and not jealously. You have a talent that few writer have. Thank you for sharing a wonderfully written and enlightening essay. The best to you each and evry day.

Very heartfelt and honest about what Fanstory means to you. Though I do get my community of poet's fix at readings, th Fanstory community- it is awesome to befriend poets from around the globe. And those reviews that truly get a poem are worth their weight in gold.

I love that you called yourself brilliant in the description line. Nothing like a little humility to start the day. :)
Both of your reasons are ideal for why you're on Fanstory. I agree that posting on this site is invaluable and helps you learn the craft of writing better than any course.
I also agree with the social aspect. It is wonderful to interact and socialize with other writers in a non-threatening manner. This community is fantastic for that. Of course there are rough spots and bad apples in every community, but you quickly discover who those are and act accordingly.
I think that I am also a 'lifer' on Fanstory. In fact, I just signed up for a two year subscription.
Great essay.

A brilliant piece spoken with respect and love for a site that encourages writer's to be the best they can be. Like a precious offering, you rolled out the essence this site offers. A positive, hopeful energy flows throughout this piece. Clearly, you understand that this site was birth and lives off the love words, stories and "like minded"people.
In addition, it's better and cheaper then any writing course.
"We have English teachers more than willing to help you with your grammar. I made it all the way through college with lousy grammar. I learned grammar here at Fan story in about a year. I didn't learn it during twenty years of formal education." This is me 100%. I got a chill reading it. "The question is, "Why would I ever leave?"
I'm calling this the Fan story love letter.
