It is actually very sad to know how many young children grew up not knowing a parent because they were killed fighting for their country. I wonder if humanity will ever get to a point where we can live in a world where there is no more wars?
This is very well done.
Take care.

Nice sentiment but doubt it will ever happen, unfortunately. Thanks for your comments and support. Appreciate them very much.

Fantastically written tribute to all who have fought for our freedom. You have done a great job of listing the horrors of both sides, for the ones at home waiting and for the soldier gone and fighting for his life and his country. I like the repeat of I knew I'd never be the same at the beginning and end.

Beautiful commentary on the significance of war for those on the home front. I am a military wife to a deployed soldier, so I have a personal appreciation for your words. I also write mostly military poetry based on our experiences, so it was good for me to read another's perspective.
Thank you for sharing,
Courtney

First of all, thank you for your service and for the excellent, well penned tributes to all your fellow vets. My husband is a veteran of the Vietnam and Gulf wars. This is a must read for him. I really enjoyed the read and thanks for sharing. Pharp

I love this one! I am the daughter of a vet who served three times in Viet Nam. The subject is still hard for me to write about but I did recently post a story of my visits while he was hospitalized for a year at Fort Campbell. Thank you for posting this one! I am going to save it so I can read it often. There is nothing about this poem that I would change.

This poem is a great tribute to all American war veterans. I love the "Unknown Soldier" feel about this poem because there are many soldiers whose name we will never know but still deserves thanks. Thank you for sharing and caring.

This is a wonderful poem. We had a young man die over seas who was a newly wed and left behind a young woman that I had a chance to work with briefly. You did a great job with this :)

Nicely done Brett,
Congratulations!
-excellent tone and rhythm lyrics
-good flow
-I like he line, 'though her world was devastated
the night she got the call.'
I had that call once in my life and it is the worse call one can ever get.
My friend is deployed in KABUL, Afghanistan now. And I pray for him and his safe return home.

Definitely can imagine this as a country song. very well composed and deeply felt.
Country songs need to bring out emotion and this one does it. Yup that ol' tear rolling down a cheek.
Good job!
