Hi, Brett...
This has all the makings of great country song -- love, love lost, and many a mile down the road.
Enjoyable read.

This definitely felt like a country song... albeit a long one... I almost felt that two songs could be made out of this one! :) But I enjoyed the easy rhythm... though sometimes it seems that your third lines weren't keeping cadence. I think that you'll find, when you actually sing it, a way to fix that easily.
I find that writing poems that turn out to be country songs, kinda makes me smile, though I'm not a big country music fan anymore, I have my roots in it... and of course, you can't be from Texas and not be drawn to country music lyrics.
I enjoyed the easy read and even smiled a few times. Thanks so much for sharing and I am looking forward to reading more from you.

This is my first experience with your writings and I am very impressed.
Nicely done in the country verse
Rhyme and rhythm are spot on.
Flow and meter make an easy and fun read.

A soul stirring poem/song that comes from the heart. You speak for many people whose jobs keep them away from family and the sacrifices that causes.
You are a gifted writer!

You really are good. Do you also write music or do you just have the tune in your head.
Years ago I tried writing country songs but without music I was told I was wasting my time.
I just checked out your profile. I was going to suggest you should head to Nashville but I see you're already there.
Love your work

"Can you please tell me where our love went wrong?" A familiar question when a partner decides to leave unexpectedly. This would be a great country song. I relate to "I won't be coming back again.' "The game you play is much too rough." " You're a danger to this heart of mine." Thanks

we can't leave not well enough alone. (I would change this to avoid the double negative) The rest is wonderful, and I hope to read more of your work, my friend~Debbie

I thoroughly enjoyed your lyrics. There isn't anything I can see that should be better. I can relate well as I'm sure others can. When you can relate to what is written it makes the poem even better.

Country music tells a story and this tells the story of a a guy who is trying to forget a woman who has hurt him. He can't get her off his mind at the moment, as he is driving down the highway. He is done with her games and has to start over, as she has found someone new anyway.

Comment from Gloria ....
Brett. what a wonderful country song. The cadence and rhymes both work very well for a musical theme. The imagery and tone so apropos for those heart-breaking country songs.
This is a great one, and I love that you got Tennessee and diesel smoke in there too.
Terrific job!
