The female redback is a most beautiful spider. We have many of the around the farm, lurking in dark corners like denizens of the Underworld. What a fatal attraction for the poor drab male! A splendid metaphor for the voracious widow!

Sounds like she was looking for love at widowsweb.com (the website for people centuriies old) & sliced him up for a midnight snack. She probably tied him up first, slicing off the digits and limbs one by one and then basting them in their own juices like Thanksgiving turkey.

This meets the contest requirements as you are within line and syllable count guidelines. The first two lines convey a metaphorical imagery which still passes the guidelines. No doubts why you chose this particular spider! Bit of a bio-security alarm here in NZ this week when some of these nasties were discovered in bunches of grapes on sale at the supermarket. We have very few venomous critters here (not like our big brother across the Tasman) and we would like to keep it that way!

No doubts why you chose this particular spider! Bit of a bio-security alarm here in NZ this week when some of these nasties were discovered in bunches of grapes on sale at the supermarket. We have very few venomous critters here (not like our big brother across the Tasman) and we would like to keep it that way!
