I find such a delightful touch of irony in this Tanka. The space between the two first lines, and the intruding passage of years--How things change in the hands of the almighty Time.

I would have sworn I already reviewed this... hmmm
anyway, I love the artwork, it's gorgeous... i"m with you. (but then, that's usually about right) ;)
lol... having a reunion soon, Mikey? ;)
Luckily I never dated anyone in my class in high school... He was a year younger than I was. Also, I saw him about 20 years ago... it's odd, isn't it? Looking into a grown up face and seeing that childlike person inside there?
All the things that made him adorable as a kid, sort of made him irritating as a grown man. (Might have been the meth he was taking...) :(
yeah, some things just turn out a little disappointing.
Not that he tried it, but that it took over his life.
Sad...
anyway... I love you poem...
Good luck in the contest Mikey

I always dated younger ... way younger.
I met mine 35 years later. We had to agree to never see each other again and only e-mail each other. :))
No meth involved. I guess she didn't notice that I was still irritating. HAHAHA!! Not sure if this is what the tanka folks are looking for. There's some toy or building blocks or something with a similar name isn't there? mikey

I'll cross my fingers. Glad you liked this. Appreciate the kind words and your other great reviews as well. I'm worthless as far as responding like I should. I'm just buried in the real world. But I do read and appreciate every review. Hey, congrats on your contest win. Well earned. I voted for you! mikey

Thank you Mikey, I am buried as well! 12-14 hour days take a lot of my days.

I feel sad in a way that you don't review my poetry anymore. I have been loyal to your writing all the way for the two years I have been on the site. The only time I haven't reviewed has been when it was overly horrific the odd occasion or recently I found one to be overly explicit. I am leaving very soon, my book is out on amazon, I posted a note about it on my profile today, but I am waiting for a better link. The book is available from October 29th. I won't be posting much more as I am busy editing my son's book apart from writing etc. I always liked your writing, your full length novels were always very good as you are very creative and you have a good command of English. This poem is very romantic, well chosen words and imagery. Hope you don't mind me expressing my opinion, mikey. Good luck in the contest. faye

Glad you liked this. I wouldn't feel right posting my novel as I don't have time to answer reviews or review as it is. Sorry I haven't been much of a fan lately, I'm just buried taking care of these people. I have three houses this year instead of one. Looking forward to your book. YAY! A real countdown now. mikey

I'm old enough to relate to this, the 70's and my first love will always be frozen in time. Nicely crafted tanka. I enjoyed this very much and wish you all the best.
Bless you

The seventies were a little bit wilder than the sixties. It was the time that America found its identity. This is very well written with very good imagery.

Resembles purple passions of the young satire young hearts. Dark background highlights the words spoken in white. Nice touch of chemistry blending the words smoothly, very nice touch with the Tanka twist fluctuating from the norm. Boo gives you six stars from his closet shelter. Boo...

Oh what a Tanka. I can relate. I got all excited seeing my high school boyfriend at our 25th reunion (Class of 69). He slipped away from his girlfriend long enough to meet me in the hall to tell me how he remembered our kisses. *sigh* I was smitten all over again.
I love the picture and its connection the words you of written. Very nice and good luck in the contest.

I know exactly what you are describing. It's a really good "sigh" like a train whistle at two in the morning. So pleased you enjoyed. Thank you, mikey

I WON'T 'pass', Mikey, as I'm always impressed by your very skilful technical presentations. :-)
OK, they can sometimes overwhelm and/or enhance the words, but on this occasion, your message of 'first and true love' shines through the 'bling'.
Nice 3rd line 'pivot', too, which connects to both the first and last two lines.
Good luck and best wishes, Ray.

Hi. Thanks, Ray. I do always write the words first. Well, there have been a couple times where I got sleazy and used a cute puppy picture. Hahaha. I'm pleased you liked this. I kinda did too. You know I agree when it comes to presentation. If the words aren't there, it's just a pretty picture. But I DO like the pretty picture. :)) mikey
