"You needed something warm to hold
You always had so much to share..."........"Something" to hold, Brett, or someone? Just an observation...
"I'd ride that rail to Heaven to bring you back to me
Life without your love is killing me
Nights we spent together are all I'm living for
And, I can't do this anymore.
It's a short walk from here to Tennessee..."........and now you know why I rarely listen to Country & Western music, or read lyrics born from the same genre.
It's nothing personal, it simply evokes too many painful memories for me...
Well done, Brett...

Country music my friend is all about three chords and the truth. Glad you enjoyed these lyrics. Really like the Signature Block!!!! Better watch out, may make a Country music fan out of you yet!

Hahaha, it's possible, Brett. I do enjoy a lot of Country artists, mostly women. Miranda Lambert, Shania Twain, Faith Hill, and Carrie Underwood, just to name a few. I'd like to really enjoy Miranda Lambert just a little more...if you catch my drift, heh-heh...
You're more 'n' welcome, my friend.
Enjoy your weekend.

I have never been to Tennessee, but this makes me want to go. I can feel a constant beat, like a heartbeat and the rhyming is good without being obvious. Well done.

Well done mate, swings along nicely, maybe a chorus would have put some weight behind your love of Tennessee.
Tennessee so good to you and me
Many memories to hold on to
For we lived, loved and laughed
In Tennessee the place I love
Just a thought, I like it a lot, good work, best of luck, cheers Kev

Such heartfelt lyrics for the love of your life that left you. I can almost hear this
to country western style of music and possibly be a hit. Good Luck

ouch. I might have to disagree with you there, bud. *smile* Hartselle, Alabama is pretty stinking sweet! hehehe
This was a GREAT song/poem and I enjoyed it highly! I saw there was a contest about states - why didn't you enter?
Thanks!

I liked this stanza very much:
Tennessee has been so good to me
And, I don't want to be a memory
I know I heard the slamming door
But, I can't do this anymore
Held my attention throughout. Good work!

There's a great Country and Western vibe in these verses, Brett as I try to read and sing them off the page. The themes are familiar in the genre and will never get tired. The Tennessee boy who's lost love and can't find a way to get her back. His emotions are raw and exposed in your verses and if you didn't give a tear in your eye as you down a beer and listen to the words, you don't like C&W. Great tribute to your state as well. Very enjoyable.

Song lyrics are a mystery to me. I know that they do not have to be excellent poetry to be excellent lyrics. The subject creation is marginal as poetry, but may be excellent lyrics ... I give you the benefit of the doubt.

Very sentimental and lovely. Tennessee isn't just a place you love, it is also connected to all your childhood memories and one very important love relationship that Tennessee will always prompt the memories and feelings. Second, being away from the place that holds your heart, I can understand the phrase, "you can't take it anymore." It's being lonesome. The reference to take her in your arms, I would assume you are talking to someone who lives in Tennessee and relaying to them not to take it for granted. It's multi-faceted and can be interpreted any way the listener or reader relates to it. Would love to hear the melody.

Brett, my friend, it's good hearing your voice again. I thought you'd left FanStory. I used to see your posts every few days.
Brett, I was soaring right along until I got to the line: "So, take HER in your arms ..." Is the singer in this a male or female? If it is a male's voice (as I thought) then is his love a lesbian? Dang git, I'm not making judgements, and I AM loving your lyrics, but I need to get past that snag.
So, take her in your arms and hold her tight
But, don't cry your tears for me in the morning light
Cause you're still gone and I'm all alone
So, how am I supposed to carry on
