It's a shameful thing we have veterans living on the streets. This story is so true to life. Thanks so much, mikey

Mikey, this was a fascinating and poignant perspective - that of an indigent Nam vet. Very pertinent, also. Not only did you do a great job of depicting the suffering of those in the late stages of cancer, especially when one doesn't have access to pain meds, but you remind us of the grievous mistreatment of so many of our Vets. Great job. Bill

Thanks, Bill
I wish it wasn't all so true. I can walk out my front door and go chat with vets anytime. It's a crime. mikey

Excellent work. This was extremely powerful and emotional and sadly true. Compelling reading that deserves the highest rating and should be published.

Wow. What a great and encouraging review. It's a shame that it's all too true though. I see it on the streets of my own town here. Thank you so much, mikey

These diary entries seem to be leading to the death of this embattled cancer patient. Private Jones' slips into a dream state and will likely die. All of this visceral dialog within the diary screams of the disenfranchised from society. It's a powerful statement of how we soon forget and never forgive.

Mikey,
Unusual side to this thing. I am truly amazed at all the pieces and how each has taken a different slant. I've been busy with my grandbaby (thank you, Lord!) *smile* and hate I missed this one -- but on the other hand, maybe I'm not sorry -- this was a tough one.
I 'liked' the angle you've taken - totally different than the others I've read -- where their 'patient' was loved and cared for, yours is dying in anonymity and unkindness, making a whole new underlying statement for the readers. Great job.

Yep, really not the most fun kind of topic. But I guess a good exercise for us all. Some great pieces came out, a couple simple awesome works. Glad you liked this, I wish it weren't so darn true. mikey

Yeah, don't give me a donut, buddy. I just gave my FUCKIN' LEG for you in Nam.-- This says a whole lot. Our country did treat these vets miserably.
I can smell the shit that used to be my insides. --yuch. Talk about appeal to the senses.
Last post that mentions cold implies he'll be dead in maybe the next two minutes.

THANK YOU!!! I thought that was too subtle. That's exactly what I meant by the last point. I'm so pleased now. YAY! I've been looking at it for the last few days thinking maybe I should make it colder to make it more obvious, but I'll stick to my guns now. I just have to hope for a smarter readership!!! Thanks a bunch, mikey

I was in a Lancaster, once, going to a seminar at Armstrong World on PLCs.
That was the last time I left these hills,1980 something. This is an excellent diary-style entry for the potlatch prose.

If there was a lot of sand and some lousy cactus, it was my Lancaster in the Mojave Desert. If it was green with nice hills etc, it was Pennsylvania. LOL
Thanks for the encouragement. mikey

Out of the four-hundred and ten million ways to go, cancer might very well be the worst. Just sorta eats a person from the inside out. Of course, if we drink enough, we just might drowned the damn stuff. Thanks for another fine read. :-)

It would be funny, if it wasn't so sad. You have hit on a very sore subject. What is the matter with the governments? Ours is the same. They send them out to save out butts, but when they come back broken, they don't want to know. Excellent bit of writing my friend, and so realistic, because it really does happen! Well done! :) Sandra xxx

I can walk out the front door and go hang out with homeless vets. It's a damn crime. There's so many that the little help we offer is a drop in the bucket. The red tape just to get what benefits and care IS available is absurd. Reams of forms to fill out to get eyeglasses etc. Well, however bad it is there, we're the worst. A tough topic, but some great pieces, yes? mikey
Comment from Pearl Edwards
Don't know about you mikey but I found this topic a bit confronting to write about, but I do like the way you have handled it with anger and humour from the homeless vet. Good job,
cheers.

YES! For goodness sake, there sure isn't a chance to write anything very happy is there? Jeesh. Well, some good pieces were written though. I'm pleased with this though it really wasn't any great fun to write. It was a good learning experience.
Thank you kindly, mikey
