Goosebumps. This is a moving story that must be told, and all too realistic. It does a fine job highlighting the heroes of the story, making the end that much more dreadful to reach. I like that you focused on the heroes, especially nowadays when the bad guys get more airtime than they deserve.
This line has a lot of truth in it: "The kid's mom and step-dad successfully incited rioting in the small community, and revelers set fires and looted the businesses of innocent, hard-working people who shared their heritage, not their work ethic."
Too many people confuse the two.
It was a tough read, but a great write. :) Keep it up, I look forward to reading more of your work.

This is a powerful story, my friend. You used the situation in Dallas to perfection and created a very believable story about what happened there. Well done, my friend. This deserves a 6, but I am all out

Doug, first I apologize for my delay in acknowledging your RR&R. The holidays have been unusually busy this year, followed by out of town company, so I have been off the site for weeks. Thank you for your kind words, virtual six and continued interest. I apprecitate you very much. Happy 2017!

Hi Phyllis, I apologize for the delay in acknowleging. My husband goes back to work next week, so my writing and FanStory have been grounded for the holidays. I'm having trouble finding my muse again. The grandbaby returns fulltime on Monday, so we'll see what happens! I appreciate your continued interest and support.

And now we can see a different side of you!
Your 'fiction' story is so well done, in chronological fashion, that it seems factual, almost as if you are journalizing. I kept imagining that this was a news article I'd actually read at some point.
You keep the reader trying to figure out the end before it comes...but it can't be done.
The read was so enjoyable that I really wasn't looking for typo's, etc. I did find one:
"...father delivered (upon on) all of them"
Comedy, poetry, and now serious...well rounded, talented author!

Hi LaRosa, please excuse my late response to this wonderful review. My husband goes back to work next week following Christmas break, so FanStory and my muse have been muted. This is extremely well penned and as I have always been a huge fan of blending historical fact with fiction - a wonderfully engaging read. I found no SPAG which allowed me to read undistracted - always a pleasure when that happens. The story line is one that holds the reader's attention from start to finish. The way you ended it was brilliant. Nicely done and I thank you very much for sharing it.

This is such a sad, deeply moving story that although fiction, could be a true story, and may well be one. So much violence and no solution. Marvelous work with this and I wish you all the besst in 2017.

I'd say that when Roy died that he went straight to the fiery furnace.
You managed to capture the reality of today's police officers' lives.
They are fathers, husbands and keepers of our community, now at risk due to racial violence's misconceptions as to who the good guys and bad guys are.
Our country is so divided and to lose men like Tom Cross is a travesty of justice.
It's not justice. It's misdirected hate; a reverse kind of KKK hate.
Wonderful write, Mary. Your voice is loud and clear. I couldn't agree more.

Well, it might be fiction, but who knows, you could have stumbled across nothing but true facts as they happened. It's a real-to-life story, one that should touch the hearts and emotions of all who read it. Great job. :-)

What a tragedy based on a lie that is still perpetrated today. Like Travon the innocent little boy who turned out to be a full grown thug. Most people today wouldn't recognize a picture of the real Travon Martin.

Oh, Mary, I wish I had a 6 left, they flew away yesterday morning. This was a really sad and so well told story. It's true, the best do die young, and it's just not fair. It might be fiction but as you say, based on historical events. The trouble is, it is still happening and won't ever stop. You really told this story well, my friend. A great potlatch challenge. :) Sandra xxx
