from the cute mention of "Avinyou" through the rest of the story, you draw the reader in with the warmth of friendship and the terrible sadness of Patty's death. When you described the brother's I could not imagine how the poor mother kept going after them both.
I think it's wonderful that you all keep in touch and get together.
This is a very touching story, well told.

Hi there, thank you so much for your most wonderful review. I so very appreciate your kind words and reflection. The two deaths were many years apart, but regardless, the toll they must have taken on her ... Mama Martucci died about ten years after Patty if I remember correctly. Have a wonderful Sunday.

I am so very sorry, Mary. What a terrible loss for all concerned. My prayers are all I have to offer, and my sincerest condolences. This is an outstanding tribute to a beautiful friendship - more than one, as yours continues with Laura and the other members of Patty's family. God bless, my friend!

Thank you so much, Dawn, for your wonderful review and the assignment of a six to Patty. Very much appreciated, as is your sympathy and prayers. Laura returned to Ohio early this morning, so until next time...I hope you are having a good week, and look forward to catching up on your posts.

No hurry. I guess there'll always be more, as long as I'm here, anyway. Take a much time as you need, my friend.

Jeez, Mary, this is a wonderful tribute--you were both lucky in the friend department--but, shinola! Her poor parents! Two kids, and the way they went. It's just unfathomable.

I'm so glad you still know the family, still remember your friend.

In one place you wrote, "carteroid artery." It's "carotid." I have serious issues with mine, so I'm extra aware.

Hi Marla, thank you for your RR&R and kind words. Patty's father passed in 1994, so he was spared the loss of a second child, but her poor mum. Thank you immensely for the catch on carteroid...it has been corrected. You were the first to mention that, so I applaud your knowledge on that, I'm sorry it's because you have issues with yours. :/ Have a great week, and thank you again for the awesome review.

Beautifully written but so sad!
This line was especially touching: 'her husband read a Winnie the Pooh story from the lectern for her three young children before sharing his own eulogy'.
'while my three siblings and I were inside'
What a loving tribute to Patty you have written, Mary.

Hello Heidi, thank you so much for your RR&R and for the me vs. I catch. I seem to have a hard time distinguishing when and when not to use me vs. I. I appreciate your review and continued support. Have a great week!

Very touching story, Mary. I enjoyed your reminiscing about your childhood friend, but this was a very sad tale and made a grown man cry.

Take care,
Russell

Thank you, Russell, for the lovely RR&R as well as expressing your grief in the loss of my friend. I learned Patty's oldest daughter just became engaged and will be married soon on the east coast where she lives. Life goes on, but one can't help wonder how after losing such a significant member of the family. I appreciate your review, as always. Have a great weekend.

I enjoy your easy conversational style of writing. You hold the readers interest and put us right there. I can see you, thumb in mouth, at the neighbors door. Lol. It's rare to find friends like these that you keep throughout the years. It's heartbreaking losing them especially so young. It brought tears to my eyes. So very sad! How amazing that you all unexpectedly met up in Disney and were able to share that fun time together and that you now have those wonderful memories. Patty sounds like an amazing person, helping others even in her death. Thank you for sharing these heart warming memories. :)

Them jumping in the pool brought a smile to my lips, but then, thinking about it more seriously - yes, it was a dangerous thing to do.

And what a terrible tragedy - Patty's brother's death also.--- so young

I didn't have the imagination too see - to see

Mary,
Thank you for sharing these lovely memories of Patty and friends - although she's gone, she lives on in your heart through those memories. You were surely blessed to have such a close, endearing friend.

Margaret

And that's why we write. To make sure the very best
are remembered, Clearly, this is the best write I have
read from you. I wish I had a six. It still wouldn't be
enough. You have been very blessed to have someone
who continues to be your guardian angel. -Bill

Hi Bill, thank you for another awesome review and for the virtual six as well. I agree with you on the writing, and I suppose to leave a little of ourselves behind too. I learned from my visit with her sisters that Patty's oldest daughter just became engaged and will be married soon on the east coast where she lives. Wow. Very powerful piece. I can appreciate how hard this must have been to write. Very well done, and a beautiful tribute. So raw, I feel like not offering any suggestions, but I know I post things wanting some good crits, so I figure you do,too.

Picky bits,

Maybe something different than or added to...had sacrificed her dream...since she did finally get her dream?

Were you with your husband and children when they ran into Patty?

Patty was stationed...the time (and) they...

I was toast...kind of threw me because my brain wanted to associate it with a drinking toast.

...military (cemeteries)..

...area I (had) committed to memory...

That's it. All the best.

You're welcome. I feel the same. Fanstorians have eagle eyes and I've decided everything I submit to anything is going on here first, LOL. Wow. Time does fly. Ever read the essay "Welcome to Holland"? Good words. All the best.
